Episode 32 - The New Zealand tea room

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 14/01/2012 22:06

Well folks, here we are, beside the hot springs of New Zealand.

The tea room (with the customary distressed chintz sofa) overlooks the steaming, bubbling lake. For the bold and sporty, hiking, biking and sky-diving are on offer. Personally, I'm not planning to leave the spa.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink and conversation ranging from the profound to the profoundly silly. The cardinal rule remains: no fisticuffs.

Oooohhhh, pancake racing sounds interesting....

Jacksmania · 21/02/2012 14:31

Whats wrong Scout? (((HUG)))

Scout19075 · 21/02/2012 19:28

Probably just a cold -- I'm shivery, hot & cold, I ache, I have a horsey cough and now, since Toddler's gone to bed, I have a runny nose. I am not happy.

Scout19075 · 21/02/2012 19:42

Oh, and my ears hurt.

Scout19075 · 21/02/2012 19:44

I cancelled Seniors.

UniS · 21/02/2012 22:44

TS would have likes pancake racing. picture the scene...
ON a drizzly day, under grey sky , on a damp playing field, under a goal post is a line of 4 and 5 yr olds, each clasping a frying pan loaded with a rubbery cold pancake. a whistle blows, the children leg it for a traffic cone some 20metres away, some of them collide, some drop their pancake (this is the little ones race they don't have to flip, just run), eventually the children run back to the gaol post, chocolate is dished out to all ( except the dairy intolerant child who gets a lolly). The little ones hand over the frying pans and slightly muddy pancakes to the BIGGER kids , who also run a race, but this time they have to go round 2 cones and flip the pancakes, they are followed by teh biggest kids who have to stop at each cone and double flip their pancakes.... Its raining, about 15 kids are willing to take part in this rather silly olde englishe tradition. Meanwhile INSIDE the pavilion the grown ups and less hardy ( or chocolate obsessed) children are scoffing freshly made pancakes and quaffing tea.

We had LOTS of pancakes for tea, both American style and English style.

beanandspud · 22/02/2012 11:09

Hope that you are feeling better Scout - I have made you a Brew with extra honey and lemon.

Unis- that sounds like so much fun Smile I wish I had sent Small Bean down to you - he would have loved it.

Sorry I haven't been around for a bit, have been away quite a bit with work and then trying to make up as much lost time as possible with Small Bean and Mr Bean.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/02/2012 12:32

That sounds wonderful, Unis.

Here, Scout, have a (((hug))) and some Brew hot chocolate with extra sprinkles.

I am a poorly girl indeed. Sad Poor TS has a very boring Mommy. However, whenever I sneeze or blow my nose he says "Bess yoooouuuuuuu." Hahahahaha.

I want to live where UniS does!!! You always have such great things on, UniS. My town is chavtastic and boring and a tad bit scary. We are, however, having the Olympic torch come to town not near it but actually through it so that will be exciting. Does save me from going to YOUT to see it.

For those Guiders and former Guides among us -- Happy Thinking Day.

UniS · 22/02/2012 19:35

its a scout thing too isn't it? Or maybe one of teh Beavers just likes wearing her necker soooo much she wore it to school. looked very soviet young pioneer. She has a flexible approach to uniform at the best of times, boots, trousers tucked in, T shirt and red necker....

Can you come up with a better ascii trefoil?

Scout19075 · 22/02/2012 19:37

Yes, today is Founder's Day for the Scouts.

UniS · 22/02/2012 19:59

boy went to bed sobbing over not being a beaver... ho hum. I guess this is maybe the first time he has had to make a choice and CAN NOT change his mind even tho he wants to. There is no space for him at beavers even if he did drop the after school activity that clashes. He DOES enjoy dance,He had class yesterday and was looking forward to it and enjoyed it. tho tonight hes saying its boring and he doesn't like without his mate being there.

Ho hum.
The curse of being nearly 6.

Scout19075 · 22/02/2012 20:03

I've never been a five year boy but I can imagine it's difficult.

beanandspud · 22/02/2012 20:08

Poor UniBoy! That's hard to get your head around when you are only nearly six but fwiw I do think it's a good thing for children to learn that they can't do everything.

Happy Thinking Day!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/02/2012 20:37

Yes, happy Thinking/Founders Day to everyone who was/is involved. I may go and start a thread, if there isn't one already.

Does Thinking Day mean I'm actually, you know, required to... think???

CMOTDibbler · 22/02/2012 20:49

Tricky one eh JM Grin

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/02/2012 20:51

Well, speaking personally, I find I can manage one day a year. Just.

CMOTDibbler · 22/02/2012 22:04

Bubbly anyone ? I realised we seem to have been off the bolly for a while.

In the CMOT house today: the good news on DHs leg is that his bone density is good. The bad news is that apart from hacking off the bone spurs, the only treatment option is replacement. And his hip seems 'dodgy' too.
DS's second tooth fell out, but this one was retrieved to great celebration. Two more will follow shortly.

beanandspud · 22/02/2012 22:21

CMOT - bubbly sounds like a good plan and I have a Significant birthday tomorrow Blush

What is the going rate for a tooth these days? Small Bean has already got the theory of the tooth fairy from somewhere and thinks they will all fall out when he is 6!!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/02/2012 22:27

Bubbly?

::waggles glass, slightly desperately::

I think I missed the story of CmotBloke's leg. Does he need a knee replacement?

The tooth fairy round here gives £1, or 2 Euros when abroad.

Happy birthday, Bean!

London tooth fairy is stuck in a cycle of rampant dental inflation.

My first teeth were all removed by the dentist (in fact, all but one had to be pulled by the dentist because the stubborn suckers would be loose for a year and not come out and I still had half my baby teeth (unloose) when I was 14/15). I remember, and this was in the early 80s, my first three teeth were worth a USD 1 each.

Sadly when I had 11 teeth removed by the surgeon the Tooth Fairy did not visit me.
