Episode 32 - The New Zealand tea room

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 14/01/2012 22:06

Well folks, here we are, beside the hot springs of New Zealand.

The tea room (with the customary distressed chintz sofa) overlooks the steaming, bubbling lake. For the bold and sporty, hiking, biking and sky-diving are on offer. Personally, I'm not planning to leave the spa.

Please come and join us for a celebratory drink and conversation ranging from the profound to the profoundly silly. The cardinal rule remains: no fisticuffs.

ohh heck to plumbing nightmare.

"Well done & pat on the back" to fine lad. Is it the uni and course he most wanted to attend?

Hio Chocy jules, my only is 5 and 3 quarters ( as he tells just about everyone these days).

Donki, can I fluff up your hay pile while you out of it . Here have some carrot cake and my special carrot and chocolate nightcap drink, it has just a leetle bit o special sheep liniamnet medicinal tonic in it.

Boy got rather muddy, some other children got VERY muddy today. Thankfully boy misheard teh bike coach when she said there would be a prize given for teh muddiest bum at the end of teh cycle training session. Boy thought she said muddiest bike, so spent half of his lunch brake riding up and down in a very muddy bit, but he did this with out falling off.

Scout19075 · 14/02/2012 07:30

Brew anyone?

Donki · 14/02/2012 10:18

Blimey UniS!
What was in your Special Sheep Liniamnet?
(It tasted a but strange)
I woke up Baa-ing, and seem to be coming over all woolly...

Quick, where are the carrots?

Donki · 14/02/2012 10:20

bit obviously

(And I meant to ask if liniamnet is the mumsnet version of liniment?)
(Ans hence, was I meant to drink it or rub it in?)

CMOTDibbler · 14/02/2012 10:31

I think UniS may be referring to Granny Achings Liniment which may not be solely for external use. Or indeed sheep, being a distilled product Wink

Beautiful sunny day here, and ds v excited as holiday club are going bowling today. And then he is going back for tea with someone - first time ever after school visit somewhere

Donki · 14/02/2012 19:54

Thankyou CMOT - all is made clear!

Which just leaves me with the problem of what to do about by fine new woolly coat...

Donki · 14/02/2012 19:55

Aaaargh! my fine new woolly coat.

Not to mention the strange noises emanating from my throat.

(Polite) suggestions on a postcard please...

UniS · 14/02/2012 21:41

drink some more, its good for all that ails ye. or maybe ale's ye.

mistlethrush · 14/02/2012 23:34

Hmmmm Ale Grin

Congrats to fine lad!!!

Scout19075 · 15/02/2012 07:45

Morning. Who's in need of a Brew?

mistlethrush · 15/02/2012 09:21

Yes please! Grey morning has cleared and we've had a bit of sunshine!

When do you think that MC will learn that talking non-stop or reading out the contents (or something else) of the juice carton or stretching and twisting just does not get his breakfast eaten? Hmm

Scout19075 · 15/02/2012 11:38

We keep having sunshowers today. I'm wondering how big & bright the rainbow/s will be.

CMOTDibbler · 15/02/2012 11:46

Oof - when you find that out MT, let me know as Tiddler is just the same. Although yesterday, with bowling and a playdate after holiday club he was dressed and fed in record time !

beanandspud · 15/02/2012 12:28

Yes please to Brew!

I will wait for the results from you MT! It took Small Bean 40 minutes the other day to eat 3 fish fingers and some beans - he is also easily distracted.

CMOT - I smiled at DS going on his first independent playdate - I hope he had a great time.

Sorry to moan but having a few problems at nursery. Key worker that SB loved has left (she has known him since he was a baby) and a new room supervisor that I don't like very much is now 'making her mark'. According to her, suddenly SB is really badly behaved Sad - apparently kicking, pushing, being silly, name-calling - all very much out of character - and she is making a big deal of it. I am willing to believe that SB isn't entirely blameless but I can't quite get my head around the fact that his behaviour has changed so much in two weeks and that she is the only person that notices it and tells me about it.

I'm sure it will sort itself out and it's just a response to change but grrrrr...

mistlethrush · 15/02/2012 15:59

Bean - why don't you turn the onus around. Say to her that this is not the reports you've had back in the past from any of the people you've spoken to about him, and ask her whether there's anything that's changed in the last two weeks that might have brought about this change in behaviour, because he's not changed from his normal sunny disposition at home. If there is anything that she can identify that has changed that might result in this change, ask her what she proposes to do about it. When they're smallbean's age you can't expect a parent to be able to reprimand their child about something that apparently happened during the day but which they didn't see... She's got to sort this out herself and work out how to deal with whatever the situation that is, apparently, making him play up whilst in her company (I can't think what that might be Grin).

Having said that, I never managed to come out with this at school - I wish I had been able to!

mistlethrush · 15/02/2012 21:52

Wine ?

beanandspud · 15/02/2012 22:09

Thanks MT - I am going to try to ask what has changed and find out how they are dealing with any of the children that go through phases of silly behaviour. I think I have been very lucky that in 3+ years this is the first time that I have been cross with nursery.

Wine would be lovely, and music...

Jacksmania · 16/02/2012 12:58

Morning all. Had to giggle at suggestion to ask key worker what has changed. Because clearly if she has a brain she will realize it's her sudden appearance on the scene. Could be a slightly uncomfortable realization... :o

We're going home today. Flight this afternoon, DH picking us up, home by late evening. I'm already shuddering thinking of DS's sleep pattern the next few days. Those three hours are enough to really rattle both of us.

Eyes are doing ok, "bandage" contact lenses gone, follow-up with my own eye doctor next week. Vision improving, but still a bit off. I've had a near-constant brain ache the last few days as my vision is changing and my brain is trying to adjust, it's interesting in a sort of way.

Has anyone seen that extremely ofd AIBU thread, it's past 300 posts now, apparently written by a MIL about a DIL's unrealistic expectations. It's the oddest thread. Sounds complete fake, or a reverse AIBU, the OP isn't taking anything on board that anyone is saying, despite the fact she's had 200 posters telling her she's being vile.... and MNHQ is running rampant with the censorship scissors, deleting every tenth post. I obv haven't been on much, but has there been a really big upset or something on MN, this thread and what's being deleted is just so very odd.

Jacksmania · 16/02/2012 21:16

I can see reasonably well. And DH tells me there is a parcel for me at home!!! I'm going to feast on chocolate tonight!!!!!

Scout19075 · 16/02/2012 21:19

Ooooohhhh, fingers crossed it's a parcel from the UK, JM!

Jacksmania · 16/02/2012 21:20

Sorry Scout, should have specified - yes, DH said it's from the UK!!!! Wahoo!!!

CMOTDibbler · 16/02/2012 21:24
Scout19075 · 16/02/2012 21:34

YAY for British parcels arriving in Canada!

beanandspud · 16/02/2012 21:37
