So many different things going on I completely let the thread slide away ! But here we are again. Hope all present and past Phalanx are doing ok. Can hardly believe it's only another week until my gs little girl is going to be 2 yrs old ! Where does the time fly to ? And we are just about half way to one of my gds having her baby. Her partner is so excited and has already bought a little Liverpool fc baby grow as he is an avid fan of the team. Very sweet to see their excitement.

Hi @Mummylin, thanks for the thread and the ice cream! Time is indeed flying, I swear that baby was born yesterday.
All Liverpool fans are obsessed, my DS, GS and SIL are part of the same clan and DGD is pulled in by default, she wears her brother’s old shirts and tracksuits!
I’m generally loving the weather despite having to sleep on the sofabed downstairs to escape the heat of upstairs. The housework has been totally neglected, I’m not doing anything unnecessary until it’s a bit cooler.
Have you heard anything more from Susie? Please send her our best wishes.
Our weekend in Dorset seems like a lifetime ago, lots going on, much of it just horrible.
The radiator sprung a leak in DP’s car so he’s just had a £300 garage bill. His middle DS in Chicago is still there but he’s not got enough credits to graduate and DP cannot afford to bankroll another 6 months so we don’t know what he’s going to do. I don’t think he understands quite how much money DP has spent on his education, it’s wiped out his entire savings.

DP’s mum has just been released from hospital again but it’s like a revolving door, she is in the last stages of cancer now.
His siblings called a meeting last weekend to discuss his dad’s estate, one brother still hasn’t got his paperwork in order so they can’t progress, there is property and taxes to sort out. It’s a substantial amount of money so the other two are getting quite tetchy with him. They then brought up the fact that their mum didn’t have long, her funeral will need organising and they were pushing for DP and the disorganised brother to deal with it as they were busy dealing with the financial stuff.
DP hasn’t seen his mum since before Christmas (she had made multiple false accusations and been generally awful so he had finally walked away) and has no intention of doing so, so he said he would not be involved with it. The other brother got stroppy and said he should because the other 3 had ‘done everything for her over the last 7 months’. DP asked where they’d been over the last decade plus while he was visiting without fail weekly, taking her everywhere and supporting her financially. It all kicked off and his brother stormed out. DP then said he would pay for his share of the funeral costs but he wouldn’t be there either and I support him. He’s at peace with his decision and that’s all that matters.

My best friend (the one who came on our girls trip to Egypt) had booked a once in a lifetime trip to Kenya with her DH and their adult DCs who are a similar age to my DS. They went to the GP for the vaccinations needed and while they were there, my friend mentioned her DH’s weight loss. The nurse said he should have blood tests done. The results came back last Tuesday. The doctor told him that he needed urgent scans the next day and for my friend to go with him.
He was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer on the spot and the hospital team were to meet this Wednesday to determine treatment options. The meeting was brought forward and they called them back to the hospital on Tuesday morning, his 62nd birthday.
In the last week he has lost a stone in weight, and he is so weak that they had to use a wheelchair to get him into the hospital. They were then told that the cancer had spread to his liver and stomach, it was not treatable but they urgently needed to fit a stent to get some nutrients in as he was not able to eat. They managed to get one in on the second attempt on Wednesday and he is in hospital for the next couple of days at least. They have given him just 2-4 months to live. The shock is immense, he was at work a couple of weeks ago, thinking he had heartburn and was a bit rundown. My lovely friend is coping as best she can but it’s just a nightmare. She’s been signed off work and she’s unlikely to go back until next year. I’ve suggested she get in touch with the hospice near us, they are brilliant and can help the family too. It’s just surreal.

Hi Married it really is shocking news for your poor friends. What should have been a time of great excitement. Has now turned into a nightmare for them. Shocking and honestly what an awful situation for their dc too.
I get you when you slept downstairs cause of course the heat rises ! It's been unbearable. I think some members of my family have also been decamping to the lounge, namely my gd who is pregnant.!
My coolest room is the kitchen and I actually have been wandering in and out of there for some relief. My dd gave me a small hand held fan, which is great. It's actually meant to fit in the front of the car somehow, but she didn't like it and she had bought two of them. It's good because I can change the air being expelled to icy cold air in seconds. It's a bit noisy tho but I can put up with that.
i have finally put all my plants in pots after Dh came home with yet more that were on offer in Asda ! So I had another load of busy lizzies but honestly I have literally only been in the garden for a few minutes at a time.
i have been following my sister and her family on a road trip to where she didn't know . On my phone she has put this map and the picture of her, but all you get is her head bobbing about on my screen ! Looks very amusing. Anyway they have ended up in Norway but leave there today. I'm not sure if they will be going into Sweden or on to Finland. I keep putting routes into Google and getting routes, times etc. and so I sent her an email that she couldn't open until wed when they got to Norway. My guess had been Norway or Sweden. My bil has done a brilliant job of planning it all out for 4 of them , their teenage twin and themselves. I'm now wondering if they are off to see the Northern lights or will now stop when they get to Sweden, if that's where they are heading. It's been fun.
My gd still has a very swollen foot , it goes down then swells back up again, I will be glad when she goes to the fracture clinic so they can check it out.
It sounds like a very complicated situation for your DP. And he can only do what he feels is right for him. A sad situation.
Yes I am in contact with Susie but I don't really know the situation with her health. I have lots of messages but they are not always legible.,
She has had a couple up upsets in the past couple of days but otherwise doing ok

Bloody hell married that's awful. Your poor DP and friend.

I was going to post about my lovely annual visit to my mum in Norfolk. I was there 3 weeks. All cheerful but my mum is Irish and death is never far away.

Your post reminded me of my mum's practical mind. I walked into the house one day out of the garden and out of nowhere came her voice. "When I die, I am 87, what will you do with the furniture?" "Mum, I haven't thought about it." "Well do, I don't want a house clearance company in, take what you want and if you sell it, get a good price. Also I have Chanel and Gucci suits, don't give them to charity, give them to FidGirl, she can wear them or sell them."

And she said with a meaningful look, "Do not argue, the three of you or I'll haunt you." My 2 brothers and I are hardly likely to argue but we have been warned!

She has problems walking but plays golf with a buggy, plays bridge with a ruthless eye on a weak partner. I really enjoyed the time with her but living abroad there's always that dread that it may be the last time I see her.
