help me decide

do ds2 will be 3 in October and I am starting to think about nursery places for him

ds1 went to a nice private nursery. 3 5 hr sessions a week. all well and good

the school he is at now is attached to a church, which is currently being rebuilt, and when it is finished a new playgroup is opening there (should be september)

so do i go for:

a) private nursery. longer sessions mean i have more time to do "stuff" in the mornings. but sessions start at 8am, which is a bit early. they are lovely there, and fairly structured and could possibly offer him more individual care- his speech is not great as he has some hearing difficulty due to glue ear, so can't communicate that well.
he also has food intolerances, and I worry about their ability to provide suitable food for him. I could ask if they could do a shorter session, but they may not agree to this?

b) new playgroup. only one drop-off, so nice and convenient.
but only 2.5 hr sessions, which means i have not really got time to do anything (go to supermarket etc) in that time, nor would I afterwards as i'd then have the 3pm school deadline
also, have never seen it as it isn't built yet so can't go and have a look around and meet the staff

i just can't decide!

Could you split between the two? so you could have a couple of days of being able to do stuff and then the shorter days for more convinience.

i hadn't thought of that... do you think it would be confusing for him?

Just because the private nursery opens at 8 in the morning, doesn't mean that's the time the children have to start.

I think the pre-school session increase to three hours after September, so that would give you a little more time to get things done.

Couldn't you put his name down for both and decide nearer the time? Or until you get the chance to look around the new one.

purepurple, no but i'd feel like i was paying for him not to be there iyswim! but you are right, i could drop him in a bit later

i'm worried taht if i leave it too late neither of them will have space for me... hmmm

I work in a private nursery, a handful of parents actually drop them off at 8, and only a 3 parents, leave them till half 6, (which are our opening hours)

I personally would choose the first one, it gives you more time to get stuff done.

Have you got your name down on the waiting lists? Personally if it was my nursery and your name wasn't on the waiting list already you would have no chance in getting a place in september, so you really would need to get this sorted if that is the case.
