Is DS trying to tell me something?

Similar to another recent post. My DS has been in daycare (I am in Australia) for 9 months now. In the last 4 months or so (basically when he's worked out how to communicate more) he gets himself really upset when I drop him off in the morning. Huge tears, clinging on and reaching out for me when a staff member takes him off me or when I put him down on the floor.

He's there 3 full days per week.

We've had a couple of issues with him coming home smelling of urine in the last 2 months but other than that we've not had any reason to be concerned with our son's care.

Is this just normal for a near 2 year old. I worry that he's trying to tell me something but then I think don't be silly he's just not wanting you to go.

When I call up to check on him sometimes, I am told he's happy, playing, singing, eating etc.

I suppose I am may be being a bit paraniod but I hate having him in care but I need to work.

Why don't you try some surprise, random drop-ins to the nursery when they aren't expecting you?

My 22 month old is going through this too & I am sahm & she rarely gets left. Yesterday evening I left her with her dh to get my eldest from after school club & she cried for a good few minutes!

I say normal, unless you see any other behavioural changes in him. The smell, I would just politely mention at this stage, could be a leaky nappy etc.

It's normal for children to be upset on drop-off, but to calm down and play happily once the parent has gone (often within seconds!). Can you hang around out of sight for 5 minutes afterwards and peek through the window?

That's a good idea, missus. They must have a place you can hide for a while.
