I have ideas aplenty, but imagination of a gnat

Just embarking on a new business venture to open a nursery, right on the moorland, with animals, veg plot, cooking classes, lots and lots of outside space and activities, den building, nature walks etc.

What would you call it? All ideas, however stupid, welcome

Isn't Secret Garden a Nancy Friday book?

beesonmummyshead · 03/05/2010 18:53

Wow! I am seriously impressed by some of you's imagination!! No don't stop!! Literally I have sat down and brainstormed for DAYS and none of my (ludicrous, cringeworthy) ideas are ANYWHERE as good as these

Baby Farm (or then again maybe not as it was baby farming that was part of the reason we have the childcare regulations).

A nursery near me is called Nature's Nursery. It's part of a small chain so don't think you could call it that alas.

Using a name based on something at the location I feel would be good. Something simple often works well, could include the location name.

Are you near Bodmin Moor?

Bodmin Babes

Baby Bods Nursery

As there will be animals... Little Lambs

As you will be growing things... Potting Shed Nursery

Great idea to ask for names... will help you decide which ones you Hate and what sort of things could work.

Secret Garden - Nancy Friday book about sexual fantasies

chimchar · 03/05/2010 19:09

the other thing that i keep coming up with is that some of the nature type themed names are sounding like garden centre type nurseries.

i guess it doesn't matter as such except that people may not at first glance realise it is a daycare provision....obviously that matters when it comes to advertizing etc...

just a thought.

Tidey · 03/05/2010 19:11

I do know The Secret Garden is a classic children's book, I just felt I should point out that it is the title of another quite different book as well, PixieOnALeaf

beesonmummyshead · 03/05/2010 19:12

Sadly Dart moor not Bodmin Moor, and not sure any reference to Darts would necessarily make people think of the moors

You guys are fantastic! I heart mumsnet.

Am that Secret Garden is a sexual fantasy book.....I am really liking that name!! Hopefully if we do go with it, most parents will know the other book...

how about...

little petals day nursery
or
flower buds nursery
or
nature trail nursery
or
lambs and kids day nursery

erm... im out of fresh imagination

nannynick · 03/05/2010 19:15

Also think about how the name could be represented as a simple logo.
A nursery near me is called Pumpkin Patch their logo and uniform is very Orange!

nickschick · 03/05/2010 19:16

Im a nursery nurse and a mum imo you need a name that sounds a bit 'posh' but one that is easy to remember some names already in use in my area are - natures nursery, stepping stones, giggle and grow, laugh and learn.

You need something childbased but not to twee.

Moorside Haven??

Up and Go

nannynick · 03/05/2010 19:41

Looking at a list of local nurseries may help exclude some names... Ofsted: Nurseries near TQ13 - not sure what your postcode is, this may be the area or may not, so modify the search if need be.

Little Bees Nursery

Buzzing Bees Nursery

Naturally Happy Day Nursery

Stillcounting · 03/05/2010 19:42

Love 'the Potting shed nursery' idea

The Blackberry Patch

Seedlings Nursery (too agricultural??)

Little Seedlings

Little Chicks

Little Sprouts Nursery

(all a bit twee, those last three)

Dibbers Nursery

Bumblebee Nursery

Honeycombs Nursery

There's an online gardening shop called "Hen and Hammock" so could use something along those lines:

Hen and Harvest Nursery

Hen and Trug Nursery

The Friendly Trug (too like a pub??)

or more simply,

The Coop

The Hen Coop

Le Petit Jardin

Russetts Nursery

Ploughman's Nursery

The Hay Bale Nursery

Haystacks Nursery

Foragers Nursery (perhaps not - gives impression of dc running wild eating poisonous mushrooms )

Le Potager

Cowslip Nursery

That's enough -

Your nursery sounds fantastic btw!!!

Whatever you go with please spell it correctly rather than in a cute/funny way.

rightstart1 · 03/05/2010 20:47

How about something ablout forest schools. Look it up... Its about how children learn from being outside etc. It may be worth abit of research
