Are Busy Bees nurseries good (or does it just depend on which one)?

They are opening a new one near us and I think a lot of the (excellent) staff at our current nursery may well move there. Was wondering whether to move with them.

My DS's (2 and 3) attend a Busy Bees Nursery in Bristol which we have always found to be fantastic. Have had no problems with them whatsoever.

My DD 2.9 attends Busy Bees at St David's Park, Flintshire in North Wales and I think its absolutely brilliant, they got an excellent in the Welsh equivalent of Ofsted and the staff are all lovely.

However, I'm sure there are some Busy Bees that are not so good, go and take a look and go with your gut instinct, I new it was the right one as soon as I walked in and met the manager.

DS1 went to a Busy Bees nursery (at University of Nottingham). They were awful.

They were constantly running on a minimum level of staff with only the legally required absolute minimum number of NVQ level 3 staff and all other staff were just assistants.

There was a very high turnover of staff (all the good staff left pretty quickly as apparently they didn't pay well) meaning the only ones that stayed for longer were a bit c**p.

DS1 has a severe egg allergy and yet they allowed him to break eggs into a bowl to bake a cake (which could have resulted in him going into anaphylactic shock) - thankfully he was OK, but the nursery didn't even apologise.

They then owed us in excess of £300 in overpaid fees when ds1 left and we had a heck of a job getting the money back from them. It took us several months of phone calls, emails, getting accounts from them so that we could prove the money was owed. In the end we threatened legal action and we got the money back within a week after that. However, the whole incident left a very bad taste in our mouths.

They are only obsessed with money and not with the care and safety of dc's. In our case, the University has its own nursery right next door to the Busy Bees one and that nursery is fabulous. I would never, ever recommend Busy Bees.

My DD goes to a Busy Bees nursery in North London and it is fantastic with great care and staff.
