Any thoughts on the best nurseries in Richmond area? I've been looking at Kings Road nursery and Richmond Day Nursery in Queens Road (part of Asquith) for my 14 month old boy. tx

HI. The waiting list at Richmond Asquith is ridiculous (unless you only want a day or possibly 2 a week). My 18 month old son is as Grena Rd Day Nursery (close to Asquith), and has been there since he was 11 months old. Open longer hours (7.30 - 18.30), all meals (very nutritious, prepared fresh daily on the premises) plus all nappies included in daily price (which is around 10 pounds per day cheaper than Asquith). I think the waiting list at Asquith is so long because it scored an 'outstanding' with most recent ofsted report. Grena Road scored 'Good' (which is fine by us) I don't know anything about the Kings Road nursery otehr than a friend of mine checked it out and she said it seemed a bit run down. If you want more info on Grena Rd then you can email me [email protected]

Hi bernicehip - thanks so much for the info! not sure when your friend checked kings road out, i've had a look about a month ago and it seemed really lovely. i've also arranged a visit with grena road now so lets see how it goes. i checked out richmond asquith and i even managed to secure a place there but i'm hesitant for some undefinable reason to put DS in there although a friend of mine has placed her DS there and they have no problems. not sure if i'm just being silly

the only thing i would say about asquith, as a chain - not specifically about the richmond one, is that they don't seem to do any letters/writing/phonics at all in the pre-school room.
not a big deal, but friends of mine were pretty fed up when their kids started reception and the other children in other nurseries all had a good handle on phonics, could write their name etc. Asquith seem quite anti-this, but their colouring skills were fantastic .

long term it clearly has had no effect, the children caught up fast, but just thought i would mention it as something to check out.
