DD to start nursery - Questions on feeding routine

DD, nearly 10 months, will be starting nursery full time in a couple of weeks. She will be there from 8 - 4:30, 5 days.

At the moment, she wakes at about 6am, and I give her 7oz bottle more or less straight away. Then she currently has breakfast between 8-9am. Her last meal of the day is usually about 4pm, as she goes to bed currently at 6 - 6:30pm - where I give her the last 7oz bottle. (she has a couple of 3oz bottles throughout the day also)

I just wanted to check if I should be looking to replace the first morning bottle and try to give her breakfast about 7am instead? Also the last meal - I really want this to be at home with me, so will have to try and make her last until 5pm when we are home. I know I need to try to get her to go to bed later so at least we have sometime together week day evenings..

Sorry if the above sounds silly to ask.. just stressing a bit as am so fixed in our current routine.. I guess the nursery will be flexible with whatever works best of us both. Just if anyone has tips on how feeding routines evolved/changed once the little ones started nursery.

Thanks

PS nursery has told me that its best that I take her meals in to start with and then they can move onto their food later once a bit older - does this sound normal and has anyone had to do this also?

stick with the bottles

DS started nursery at 6 months and i always gave him his morning bottle and he then had more breakfast at nursery

not sure about the food - assume you are paying for meals to be provided?

RedHairedGirlie · 14/01/2010 21:54

Thanks Ruby.

I think the meals are included once she moves on to them, they didn't mention anything about extra costs.. will double check when I go in with her.

Normally nursery meal times are pretty fixed - they may do breakfast (not all do, but often do for babies), lunch usually at 11.30, tea at 3.30/4.

I've never sent food in for DS, and he was at nursery from 4.5 months

I work in a nursery and our routine in the baby unit is this:-

9.00 breakfast, usually toast, some parents bring in fruit or cereal- we will feed your baby whatever you ask us too

11.30 lunch, provided by the cook, it is pureed or left a bit more lumpy, depending on age of baby

3.15 tea, usually bread-based, such as tea cakes, brioche, with fruit and salad veg and things babies can eat themselves

babies also are given their bottles during the day as per the parent instructions

our nursery doesn't ask parents to bring in food, unless it is because of food allergies which we cannot accommodate (which doesn't happen very often)
I am sure that the nursery will accommodate your wishes.

DS's nursery is

8am Breakfast

10.30 snack

12.00 lunch

2ish sncak again

4.00 tea

These meals are fixed but they do extra feeds/naps depending on the babies routine.

Thanks for posting the sample routines.. sounds pretty similar to what I am doing at the moment inc. the bottles. One thing less for me to stress about !
