popping in to see DS at lunchtime; shall I stop?

Since DS, 9 months, started nursery 2 months ago, I have often popped in at lunchtime to see him, and stay about 20 mins before going back to work. This was fine initially but I think he is starting separation anxiety as he now cries everytime I leave (although I am told he does settle within a few minutes). I enjoy going to see him, but do you think it is unfair on him, especially as I might not make it every day?
Nursery can't give me any guidance.

As a nursery nurse I would prefer it if you didn't especially if it is now upsetting the child.

To be honest I'm surprised the nursery has let you continue this for 2 months. It must be quite disruptive if your child is otherwise settled.

I childmind and wouldn't like it if a parent came by every lunchtime.

yes unfair on both of you

give yourself a proper lunchbreak instead

MadameDuBain · 15/12/2009 21:58

I wanted to do this when DS started nursery at a similar age, but the staff (very kindly and delicately) said it wasn't a good idea at all, and he would get used to nursery much more easily if I didn't.

It does get easier and I think maybe it is time for you to stop doing it.

Thanks everyone, that has been really helpful, I will stop going in. I think I thought it was such a long day for him without seeing a familiar face, but now he knows the staff well I think to be honest it was probably more for my benefit.
