DS will be three in September 10, do I need to start applying to nurseries now? I'd quite like him to go to one of the LEA nurseries attached to one of the local primary schools, but I'm struggling to find any decent information. I've tried the Surrey CC website, and when I search for nurseries it seems to direct me to schools but with no information about the nurseries attached to those schools. Is there somewhere else I can look. Just googling isn't working and childcare link only comes up with private nurseries.

I think you can apply from the september before they are 3 for school nurseries anyway so put his name down now.

Oh blimey, i've got dc 2 due in three weeks, just what I need!

One of the really good schools has got this on their website.... "A child can be admitted into a Holmesdale nursery class at the start of the academic year in
which they become four" so if my ds is four in September 2011, then surely I can only apply in September 2010?

I'm really confused because I thought they started at three, but according to that, ds would start in Sept 2011, when he turns four.

Are there any schools near to you with a nursery attached to them? Within walking/driving distance i mean?

madhairgirl · 04/12/2009 12:45

If you have one in mind go and visit it, and they will probably be able to answer many of your questions

ledodgy · 04/12/2009 12:45

I don't know as our school nursery starts the september after they are 3. It also depends on what day in September your child's Birthdy is. Ring them up and ask you can normally put their name on the list over the phone and they will tell you if it's too early or not.

ds's birthday is 13th Sept, so I'm not sure if that means entry for him is Sept 2011...

I would prefer him to go to the nurseries attached to the schools in the area, as I'm hoping he will be able to just continue on to the primary school...

Ring the ones you've got in mind - they'll be able to put you straight.

I got in a right muddle with ds1 until I started phoning.

sunburntats · 04/12/2009 12:51

I only ask because i actually walked with ds to the nursery and asked them about it all.
It was MUCH better to go and actually ask for myself and get answers from those who know what they are talking about.

Ok, so I need to get out and about really don't I? Thanks for the advice. I'll start calling too. My cm sends her son to a school that's about a mile away and she raves about it, and if I can get ds in to that, she might even be able to do some after school care for him as she's going there to collect her ds.

Another question, there are several good primaries near us, we're really lucky, and lots of them have got nurseries attached to them, but their ofsted reports only refer to the school rather than the nurseries attached to the school. Searching under nurseries only comes up with the private nurseries again....
