Nursery photos ...

Hi

Our nursery is having a photographer in on Monday and we have all been given the chance to sign up to see her. I didn't sign up but was leant on quite heavily by the nursery manager who assured me that there is no obligation, etc. etc.

My lo does not go that day so I would have to do a special trip in - not a problem - and I have been thinking abot it this weekend and thought maybe it's not such a bad idea as the example shots we good and we don't have any professional shots of our lo.

I asked how much the pictures will be and the manager was evasive. I know that photographers charge different rates but I was wondering what is standard for nursery pictures. Are they as expensive as booking a session at a photographers?

Thanks in advance ...

The ones that come to our nursery just leave a contact sheet after the shoot and you take it home and fill out a form.

Can't remember how much they are off hand (and not relevant to you anyway, but I don't think they were particularly expensive), but no pressureo order if you think they're too much as you just complete an order form (or not) and return it to the nursery.

DD's nursery just did this and the cheapest package was 18.75 (that was for 1 x 6x4 and 4 quite small ones.) I think the next package was £25, and seemed better value (I think there was 1x 8x6, 4x 6x4). DD's nursery just take photos of all the children (guess it fills some time!), and send the proofs home for you to decide whether you want to buy any. We've never been under any pressure to purchase them, and I'd be pretty annoyed if they did. (We've never bothered as I wasn't impressed.)

The ones that came to my nursery were £5 a print. You could buy a CD of all of the ones taken for £60 (and then you can print off Photobox etc for 5p a print). Ours came out really really well so I was really pleased. There was no pressure to take any of them.

ours are reasonable, same as school photo prices really. no obligation, no pressure. you get a sample pic and can choose if you collect the set.

At ds1's pre-school they took 3 pictures (5 x 7 size) that you could buy (or choose not to) at £5 each. We could then order extras in the same size or bigger. I think 8 x 10 were £10 each (more if framed).

Hi

Thanks all - might go then. I keep thinking about getting some professional ones done but baulk at the price (I went back to work part time and it has affected our income slightly). I have a good SLR camera anyway and have some lovely shots of my lo but would be interested in someone else's take. I rather hoped that ones at nursery/school would be more reasonable.

Thanks again!

All the ones that DS has had taken at nursery have been lovely, and v reasonably priced. My favourites are the ones where the photographer comes in for a few days and takes natural shots, which are lovely
