can you give NNs cash for Xmas?

Reading the threads on here about too many boxes of chocs for NNs at Xmas and so on, I was thinking what to do instead.

I was wondering about slipping £x cash inside NN/keyworker's Xmas card.

I already mailed the nursery manager (not to ask her about cash) to ask if there were any 'rules' about Xmas gifts. She said 'no, you can give whatever you like'.

Do people think cash would be appreciated, or embarrass the recipient (who might try to give it back), or somehow cause a riot (eg nursery manager gets upset)?

One alternative I thought of is a voucher (eg Itunes, she's quite young and trendy). Anyone with any experience of this minefield please help!

Thanks v much.

I think money is a good idea and what I'm planning to do. I always feel bad because although my nursery isn't cheap I feel sure that the money isn't going to the hardworking caring staff there at all. My problem is that during the year DD has changed key worker twice and has recently moved to the next room up. I really want to give cash but there are about 5 key workers who I feel I should give it too and I'm not sure what the right amount is.

Hi, i am a nursery nurse and any christmas gift is always lovely as it shows we are appreciated cos we certainly don't do the job for the fab wages lol.Money is a nice thought but i always like getting somthing that shows some thought went in to it.Perfume from next seems to be a favourite at my place as we all wear it for work so we don't use our expensive stuff xx

I always appreciate gifts at Christmas. But, I would feel uncomfortable at a parent giving me cash. I would feel as if they were trying to buy me or worse, that they pity me on my choice of career.
I love my job and am bloody well good at it.
Be very careful. your gift may not be interpreted in the way that you mean it to be.

This is all very helpful.

The idea of giving cash is really an idea about how to avoid the 'present she didn't really want' syndrome.
