Cost per day for nursery place - does this price seem about right?

ust want to know what most people pay for their nursery places - am looking to put my DTs (aged 2) into nursery as am going back to work part-time soon.

Have just been quoted £43 per day (8am-6pm) per child although will get 10% discount for 2nd DT. This includes all meals and nappies, wipes, etc. Or they can offer half day sessions at £25 per child.

Does this seem like an okay price? We have no idea what the average cost is! If it helps, we are in Kent - don't know if there is much regional variation!

I'm on the South Coast and when DD3 was 2 we paid 28.10 a day (0800-1800) including breakfast, lunch, tea, snacks morning and afternoon but not nappies and wipes. This is a nursery in a Sure Start children's centre.

Now she is 3 the cost has gone down and will go down again when she gets her early years funding.

£50 something per day here... £53 maybe? So no, not unreasonable. I am in Surrey.

Ewe · 15/10/2009 21:13

Oh and mine doesn't include nappies and wipes but does include all meals.

frasersmummy · 15/10/2009 21:20

I am shocked at some of the price on here ... we pay £33 per day. This includes all meals and snacks except breakfast

This is the rate for 3-5 year room I know its a few pounds more in the baby room and up till this year they provided everything inc wipes and nappies

Of course we get the govt subisdy .. this is full price

frasersmummy · 15/10/2009 21:21

we are in the glasgow area

janx · 15/10/2009 21:45

I am north london and its £45 a day - incudes meals - not nappies. Ds eats so much - we feel like we get our money's worth

PuppyMonkey · 16/10/2009 07:50

You ALL need to move to Derbyhire by the looks of this. Rip offfffff.

janx · 16/10/2009 08:28

But isn't it relative to wages and where you live? I wouldn't earn as much in Derbyshire

Paolosgirl · 16/10/2009 09:29

No - the central belt of Scotland (outside of Edinburgh) is hardly renowned for it's high wages!

gingernutlover · 17/10/2009 08:02

we pay £51 a day in west kent (commuter belt)

includes all meals and cows milk but not nappies or formula for babies. Opens 7.30-6pm

So your £43 is probably resonable altho kent is a very large county, i know medway and eat kent are probably cheaper cos not so close to london.

janx · 17/10/2009 10:53

Yikes - our nursery fees have gone up to £51 a day - not sure why I am working

dontrunwithscissors · 17/10/2009 17:23

I'm in NE Scotland (not Aberdeen) and pay £38 fro a full day (7.30-6.00), inc lunch and snacks but not nappies or wipes. A morning, inc lunch, is £20.50. DD is 2.5. It goes down to £35 per day when she turns 3.

namning · 18/10/2009 18:47

sounds reasonable to me. In Chelsfield fees are 44.50 a day for an under 2, with a reduction offered when they turn two and again when they turn three.

argento · 18/10/2009 23:32

I read somewhere that "high-quality" nursery care (decent staff training/wages, low ratios, top quality food etc) would cost 3 times what average nursery fees are now.
