Obese nursery staff

A new member of staff will be working in the nursery baby room that I work at. I would class her as grossly obese and I am really really concerned that she may trip and fall on top of a baby because she may not notice for example, a baby at her feet or in her vicinity. There are a lot of babies rolling, crawling, toddling from as young as 3 months to 15 months old.

This is a difficult one for me to raise with the nursery. What do I do as a concerned member of staff?

If I was a parent I would be concerened. I would be interested to know if parents on this forum would see this as a safety concern?

Response on here just goes to show that people DO judge you as a person on how you look. They make instant judgements about you as a person, your lifestyle and your capabilities. It is the same as judging somebody by their disability or the colour of their skin. It is all something visual that makes you change your attitude negatively towards that person.

Like a previous poster said, my real concern would be if my child's carer was sitting on the internet when they should be caring for my child. THAT is a real disgrace.

I may be overweight but I am not ignorant or prejudicial towards anyone. Maybe we should pick on smokers? What about people who embark upon risky activities, type 2 diabetics, ANYONE who uses up resources where ignorant people believe it could be avoided through choice.

OR, I know - ANOREXICS! Being underweight is not healthy for you - shall we get on their case? After all, it is such a SHAME when you look at their bodies, BUT with obese people it seems to be the other way around horrible and disgusting - YET it is still an eating disorder just at the other end of the spectrum. The difference is that Anorexia sufferers don't appear to be having their weight issue stuffed down their throats (excuse the pun) every day by the new and magazines, websites and leaflets in doctors surgeries, it is EVERYWHERE!

This whole issues makes me bloody mad. I AM overweight - by 12stone. I live with it every day and feel truly unhealthy but I do NOT need it slapped in my face every single day because OTHER people who are not overweight come up with ridiculous ideas and suggestions in order to remove "fat" people from their eyeline.

Get over yourself OP and go and do what you are being paid for - even if this was a serious question there are still ways and means of being kind without sounding ignorant.

Next the government will be telling us overweight women are not allowed to give birth!

FS;...that's life i'm afraid...people judge all the time...

type 2 diabetes is linked to being overweight btw..

Fruitysunshine · 17/07/2009 14:53

I don't judge people all the time. I judge people on their relationships with me and not their physical attributes. So that is a bit of a generalisation.

And I know type 2 is linked to being overweight, that is why I put it in there btw...

not read all the posts but cant believe it was posted in the first place
cant look after children because she is too fat, for goodness sake, i would prefer an overwieght lady who loves children and plays with them look after my kids rather than a thin lady who shows no interest .
get over yourself!

if you are genuinely concerned then I think you must be genuinely stupid. I hope you get sacked and she doesn't have to work with you. The only problems I would forsee would be things like backpain, when I worked in nurseries I found this a bit of a problem in the baby room, and was a bit worse when I was a little heavier, but it was not something that affected my ability to work. I think the suggestiont hat she may fallover and squash babies is ridiculous really.

CommonNortherner · 17/07/2009 16:55

Yeah, I'm always falling over and crushing ds... but hey, at least he'll be thin then!

mumblecrumble · 17/07/2009 21:02

Me and my daughter have just spent the evening [due to heavy rain for days] putting all our cushions and seat cushions on the floor and rolling all over our home made soft play.

I am a fatty

I did not roll or fall on her once.

I can understand your concern, we get a bit over the top when they are our children but for goodness sake get over it. If she's fit enough to be working there, you don;t have a problem.

I am quite over weight but deemed fit to teach. She will probably have had the same. I;d be more worried about the nursery staff that go out for fags then poisen the kids with the stench....

HairyMuff · 17/07/2009 21:09

Well I'd be more concerned about her eating the babies

mumblecrumble · 17/07/2009 21:10

mmmmmmmmmmmm babies are so delicous

gingernutlover · 21/07/2009 11:10

okay well, is she any more likely to fall over than any other member of staff?

If it was a 6 foot tall man (also very heavy) that was about to start would you also be worried?
