2 months notice? More like 2.5...

Hey all,
I need advice. For professional reasons our family is relocating to another country. Unfortunately I have to take my DD from her nursery. I gave 2 months notice today (for mid-may) only to be informed that it doesn't matter because I'll have to pay until the end of the month of May.
How legal is this? does anyone knows?
I feel I am being cheated of 600 pounds as that's how much it will cost these extra two weeks... And I just know they are going to fill the vacancy so quickly, with the long waiting lists...
How legal is this? does anyone knows? Is there anything I can do?
Thanks for your advice.

Sounds very unusual to me (i'm a nursery manager) But does very much depend what your contract says. I would ask them to confirm contract wording over phone (if they are tryng it on it will be enough to stop them!)

Good luck

unfortunately, the contract does say: "..we require a minimum of two months written notice, expiring at the end of the month.."
There isn't much we can do. We are leaving the country mid-may.
Really unfair.. sigh..
Thanks for your replies
