Would you consider sinding LO to a brand new nursery?

I am due to return to work in a couple of months and I have my DS booked in for his one day a week at a nursery. I have just seen a sign go up for a new nursery at the end of my road. This would be much more convienent to get to (other one on duel carriageway) but was recomended by another parent.

I don't know whether to go and have a look, but have concerns because it is brand new therefore no one can recomend it to me. Is this a reasonable concern? What are your thoughs?

The title should read 'sending'

someone's got to be first! Not meaning to be flippant, but convenience is very important.

Yes I would and I did. Go and have a look and talk to the staff / owner. You will get a good feel. You just have to go with your instinct. Worked brilliantly for us because the groups were all v small and the building v large!

I did and it was a bit of a mistake, because once the room was full of children I could see that it wasn't fabulously spacious after all, and realised the whole place stank of nappies. Didn't when I looked round it though of course. I got a great feeling from the staff when I looked round it, but some of the staff were from neighbouring nurseries in the same chain and they didn't end up transferring to the new one. The woman in charge of my DS's room was recruited late and clearly losing it already by the time we started - but I hadn't met her when we made the decision.

If you've used a nursery before you might have a better eye for it than I did. Also, quiz them closely about exactly who will be working where and how much additional recruitment is left to be done.

Thanks for your advice. It is a difficult one cos I can't get references and difficult to get a feel when there are no other children there.. Location is brilliant though

I am about to in a couple of weeks. Has the best facilities and I love that everything is brand new and just been passed by health & safety.
Am lucky as I do know 2 staff that work at dd's current nursery. Can you find out if any of the staff hace worked locally before and then get references?

sorry have

Talk to the staff and go look round. I would certainly consider it - if the one recently opened near here had been a bit nearer I would have done (and I have seen it since - it is still nice and still too far away)

I did this and it worked out well. There were a few creases needed ironing out as the nursery started, but everyone was very positive and the newness was lovely. He's still very happy there and just around the corner so very convenient (no massive commute for him anymore!).
