New to working in a nursery and today I had my first kiss from a child

I've been working in a nursery since September and have grown attached to a lot of children and will readily give cuddles and stuff to children when they seek it but today as a parent collected their daughter (who is adorable, but has only been there for two days that I have been there) and she INSISTED on a kiss from me before I left.

I was soooo touched but as her mum was there I felt very self conscious about this and it obviously showed. After hanging back a bit (and confusing the little girl a bit, I thiknk) I let her kiss me on the cheek and kissed the top of her head but this little girl wanted a lip kiss, which obviously I would not have felt was appropriate in any circumstance. In the end I picked her up and gave her a big cuddle which seemed to resolve the situation.

Was so pleased that this little girl has grown attached to me but felt I could have handled the kissing in front of parents thing a bit better.

You handled it fine, don't worry.

You sound like a lovely carer.

It must be tricky for you. Children like to give their sloppy kisses. A kiss on the cheek is right but I will also understand if my dc managed to find your mouth. I have seen carers at my nursery turn to give their cheek when the child was aiming for the lips.

As a parent, I would be happy if my children were so fond of their carers.

as a nursery nurse I have a moot of "no kissing on the lips". It makes me sound like a prostitute though

moot?
motto!

Oh thats so lovely Pennies. Says an awful lot about you as that little girl's carer. And it sounds like you handled the kissing thing just right.

My 5 year old DS went up and gave his class teaching assistant a great big cuddle when he came home today. She said "Goodbye gorgeous, have a great weekend" and cuddled him right back. It was lovely! I love her .

my boy goes through phases of kissing bye bye . His carers either accept it on the check or stand up and blow a kiss which he returns.
