I never send my DD with a cold.

I'm with Marla - if I kept dd at home with a cold she would hardly be there - she has had a perma runny nose for the last few months.

Vomit/eye goo/nasty nappies/ high temps etc would mean she would stay at home. Though my GP told me that it is NOT necessary to keepy them off with eye goo !

JackieNo · 01/02/2009 15:06

They're both past nursery age, but when they were there, I'd do as Marlasinger did - as long as they were happy in themselves, and no temperature, they'd go in.

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 01/02/2009 15:06

It depends. If they're otherwise well...no temp etc. then yes I would.

MinkyBorage · 01/02/2009 15:07

colds are not classed as illness in our house. business as usual unless it's serious

hotCheeseBURNS · 01/02/2009 15:07

Yes, nurseries are used to kids having colds all the time.

The only time I've kept him home was with sickness/diarrhea or with chicken pox.

MinkyBorage · 01/02/2009 15:08

by serious, I mean they seriously actually feel ill, rather than have a bit of snot

SoupDragon · 01/02/2009 15:08

Yes. Otherwise she would never be there. Provided she is fine in herself, she goes in.

waitingforgodot · 01/02/2009 15:08

what about a cough?

cmotdibbler · 01/02/2009 15:08

Of course - at times they are all runny nosed etc. Our nursery gave us a list of the things that they should be off with

waitingforgodot · 01/02/2009 15:12

Perhaps I am being a bit over zealous keeping him off with a cold then but he does have a cough and has not yet mastered the art of covering your mouth when coughing!

Ah, but the passing round of non-threatening germs is what childhood is all about. They won't develop a good auto-immune system unless they blend sneezes and snot in their formative years.

ds only goes part-time for the freebie provision, but I only keep him off if he's genuinely out of sorts, with a temperature, etc.

PortAndLemon · 01/02/2009 15:16

Sniffly cold, or runny nose yes. If he's got a temperature or is really miserable, no.

Swedes · 01/02/2009 15:16

DD is off as frequently as she attends. Sometimes we are on our way there and she says: "I wish we could go to the park. I have got a little bit of snotty nose." And so we go to the park.

Desiderata-you are so right! You have summed it up. Thats that then. If DS wakes up tomorrow in a cheerful mood then off to the nursery we go! Thanks for all your replies.

Desiderata · 01/02/2009 15:23

Aha! I have provided the definite answer, after all these years

waitingforgodot · 01/02/2009 15:29

Indeed you have. We can all quote you in future threads relating to nursery v's illness!

Swedes · 01/02/2009 18:52

MarlaS - Sorry, I realise it wouldn't fit for everyone.

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 01/02/2009 18:55

I send mine with a snot fest - if he was unwell and clingy with it with a temp then i wouldnt.
