Do most nurserys have reduced fees over Christmas due to closures?

DD's missing two of her normal days but we have been charged the same as normal months, however a friend has said her nursery has reduced the bill for the days her ds is missing.

What is the usual thing?

It depends some nurseries charge for bank holidays & some don't what does your contract say?

spicemonster · 19/12/2008 21:08

Mine isn't at nursery any more but when he was, they worked it out so you paid the same every month, regardless of how many days there were in the month and whether there were days off so some months effectively you were getting 'free' days and others less than you pay for. Should be in your contract.

good point! I'll check tomorrow!

Depends how they structure it. DS's nursery is like spicemonster's -- charges a flat rate per month based on the number of sessions you do per week, regardless of the actual length of the month or the number of sessions attended.

misscathcart · 19/12/2008 21:15

thanks guys, I'll have to check the contract. I expect it is as you have said P&S - good job I asked the question before I started ranting and raving at the nursery

We dont pay for the days the nursery is closed where I am.....made the bill much nicer this month!

Ronaldinhio · 20/12/2008 19:08

we pay regardless....

Sidge · 20/12/2008 20:42

We only pay for the days the nursery is open (but we pay whether our child is there or not).

So as the nursery is closed for 10 days over Christmas our bill was significantly lower this month!

cmotdibbler · 20/12/2008 20:45

We pay regardless of whether they are open or child is attending.

I know when we looked at different nurseries, some you got up to x weeks a year of holiday fee free, some you got bank holidays, but I think the majority do flat fee as its much easier to administer

Lubyloo · 20/12/2008 20:50

My nursery is shut on bank holidays and so doesn't charge. At the beginning of the year they add up the number of days your child will attend and then divide the cost equally across the 12 months so we have a flat rate but aren't charged when they are closed.

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 20/12/2008 20:56

Our nursery closes xmas, boxing day and 1st and 2nd Jan.They reimburse us but if you choose not to send your child on a day nursery is open you don't get money back.

KT12 · 21/12/2008 13:15

Ditto - Nursery does not charge for days they are closed, but do if they are open and we choose for DC not to attend.

verywiseowl · 22/12/2008 10:28

DD's nursery is shut Christmas week. However they average out the monthly payments so that you pay the same each month.

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 22/12/2008 10:29

Dds nursery gives a 20% discount to cover week from 29th=4th jan.DDs can also go in on xmas eve but wont be doing.
