Hi

I am planning to go back to work in March next year and am in desperate need to find a great nursery near Canary Wharf. There are loads but I just wanted to hear of any that you could recommend based on previous experience for my 8 month old baby.

My twins went to all of the Little Unicorn ones at some stage or other (Westferry Circus, Columbas courtyard, Canada Sq and Herons Quay). We loved it. They started at 6 months and left the July before they started school. They are 6 now and still go to Little Herons for the occasional day in school holidays.

Hope helpful

FR my DD will be starting at Lanterns in the new year. Parents always rave about it.

I think that there was a thread on MN about nurseries in the wharf not too long ago if you do a search.

Good luck

We went round Lanterns and were impressed... our little one is starting in March

My DS went to Lanterns from about 21 months to 3.6 years and he was very happy there. It went through a bit of a dodgey patch about a year ago (just after DS left) when they had to move premises in a hurry but I think it has improved again. They make a big effort to go out a lot to playgrounds and places of interest and they do quite a lot of active play when inside the nursery so especially good if you have very active children. DS was never in the baby room so I can't comment on it, but I used to pass it when I was dropping off and picking up and they were always cuddling the babies and carrying them around. Lanterns is cheaper than Little Unicorns.

Little Unicorns is probably better if you have a shy child as they tend to be in smaller groups and be more structured in their play. My neighbours sent their child to Little Unicorns when she was a baby but pulled her out after about 3 weeks and sent her to Lanterns instead because they weren't happy with how she was settling.

Also used by people I know are Muddy Boots beside Mudchute Farm and the nursery on Mellish Street (I think it's called the Barkentine Nursery). Muddy Boots is very outdoorsy and has fairly long waiting list, some parents were delighted with it and some moved their children, so possibly not right for everyone. I only know one person who uses the one on Mellish Street and she really likes it, it was purpose built quite recently and apparently the staff are lovely but I thought the rooms were a bit cramped and there isn't much outside space. If you live in Tower Hamlets I think both Muddy Boots and Mellish Street are subsidised quite a bit.

FR
Sorry can't help you on costs, as it was a while ago that I last paid for nursery as I paid a year in advance (you get 10% off) and for 2. LU is also cheaper after the age of 2, so am really not sure on the cost per baby.

Did you decide yet?

Hello. I am new to the site
I am also looking for a nursery for my boy.

Cityangel: how do you find Lanterns? Is it good?

I am also considering the one on Mellish Street. Any comments on this one please?

Lanterns got an inadequate in its ofsted report last year, and has just got another inadequate and a notice to improve.
My daughter was there for three months and it was a nightmare -we found her down a corridor unattended and had many more problems after that.
We ended up at a small claims court and won our case.
Good luck with search.

My DD attended Little Unicorn since she was 13months and I was very happy with her care there. We only left as we moved overseas. They are very professional and my DD really had a fun time there.

i like the one in mellish street, the barkantine nursery.
ds been there since he was 10 months old.
lovely staff that is stable - not many changes in the past years. lots of cuddles with kids.
they do have a garden. what I really like, the baby room for the small babies is on a different (ground) floor, so it*s quieter.

Hi my daughter attends Limehouse Day Nursery which is just near Westferry DLR and she loves it. She has been here for 2 years now and im glad i changed my mind and started her here. The nursery has just been refurbished so its alot bigger now, the garden area is twice the size and the children love running around in it. The nursery has a sports coach and also dance teacher who both come once a week and my daughter cant wait to show all her new moves each day. The number is 02075383355 so maybe pop down and have a look?
