I took my 2 year old and 8 month old to a day nursery for the first time yesterday. They will only be doing two aftrenoons a week. My 8 month old was fine as I expected. I phoned ater 2 hours to check on them and my 2 year old DD had been crying since I left. They told me I shouldn't collect her because she will know that if she cries mummy will collect her, I can see that point. When I picked her up after her 4.5 hours she was still crying and looked awful. I cried when I saw her all she kept saying was 'home' The staff say that they kept calming her down by taking her to see DD1 but they couldn't keep doing that as they are not allowed. I just feel so guilty, I'm worried to take her again.

hasn't she had any settling in sessions?

i think it is a bit much to leave her there for 4.5 hours if she has never been before

usually a nursery will offer a week or more of settling - you stay initially

can you do this? It shoudl make things easier

We went for a half hour session. Trouble is now I am working for their next sessions. Perhaps DP should stay as he will be dropping them off. It is so hard.

hmmm - i think if your DP can stay that would be good (even if he is in the building

IME, it does get much easier and in a few days your DD will be enjoying it

talk to the nursery ...

it will be ok

That doesn`t sound good to me at all . First impressions of this place sound dreadful to be honest . They sound totally inexperienced at trying to settle her down.
4.5 hours of a child crying is so sad.
I would be looking at other options now.
