What should toddler take the nursery with her?

These are probably thick questions, so apologies in advance but my 2 year old has just started nursery and I'm not sure what she should be taking with her. Does your toddler have a bag to take? What do you put in it? I have just been handing over stuff e.g hat to keyworker but I have been looking through all these nursery threads and maybe I'm supposed to be labelling clothes/providing a bag of certain items? The nursery have not said anything so I'm not sure at all!

Change of clothes, pants, nappies if appropriate. Sun hat, water bottle/juice cup. And yes, label everything.

JackieNo · 26/06/2008 21:36

I'd check with the nursery. Ours likes a change of clothes, in case of accidents, sun hat, sun cream (labelled with the child's name). Nothing else, but a good idea to label everything - you're more likely to get it all back when it goes astray.

Ask your nursery what they would like you to bring in. From my experience, they vary wildly from almost nothing please to a bag with complete change of clothing, comforter if used, show and tell item, piece of fruit for snack time etc etc
tbh I am surprised they have not talked to you about what to bring..although that kind of suggests that they do not expect you to take much!
Bet bet is to ask net time you are in and check out what others are sending in with their children.

dd used to take
spare pants, trousers/skirt and socks
nappies,wipes
sunhat
suncream

sure they would say if they need other things

Shoegazer · 26/06/2008 21:47

Thanks for all the replies. Nappies, wipes, suncream and drinks are all provided so no need for those. They did say that when she started potty training could I bring some changes of clothes but other than that nothing. I think I will go for bag with change of clothes and sunhat in and labelling stuff then. I will ask them too. Thanks again!

we leave a supply of nappies and wipes there (if lo still using them)
Each day they take a small bag with a spare set of clothes [in dd's case two spare sets of trousers and undies....enuf said] and sun hat and suncream. we also have been asked to take toothbrush and paste to leave there atm cos they are doing a healthy-teeth thing where they brush their teeth after snack.
clothes-wise I send them in anything hand-me-down or cheap, because they have a fab time in sand, water, paint, dough and all sorts and usually come home wearing a good amount of everything they have tried in the day plus some evidence of their dinner. so best not to send them in their good clothes!! I tend to put name tapes in stuff that they regularly take off like coat and cardigans etc; in our nursery the children each have a 'peg' with their photo on where they put their bag and coat but that sort of stuff does vary from one place to another.

LolaLadybird · 26/06/2008 23:09

Oh yes, definitely no nice clothes for nursery - DD always comes out looking like a child that's had a really good time (ie. v grubby). I usually put DD in hand-me-downs or slightly outgrown stuff although one day felt particularly embarrassed watching DD run into nursery with a pair of trousers swinging around her ankles (looked like a bit of an orphan child) .

Change of clothes -- normally one set enough, but you may need up to four when potty training.

In summer - hat
In winter - hat and gloves
Generally - waterproofs, wellies

A good idea to name everything, or at least to accept that anything not named may disappear.

sheena1 · 27/06/2008 14:11

change of clothes
nappies
sun hat
suncream
wellies
baby wipes

SlightlyMadSweet · 27/06/2008 14:19

DD has a bag. In it she takes

A clean pair of trousers
A clean top
A hat (summer)
Suncream (summer)
Her diary

When potty training aparently multiple knockers/trousers are also required.

None of mine are named - apart from Shoes cos allt eh kids seem to have the same clarkes shoes at that age (but they should be)

I take a full pack of wipes & nappies to nursery on request so they get left there.

When they get a bit older they also take a toothbrush/toothpaste as they encourage them to clean teeth after meals (well they say that in parctice this is once a day).

label everything - including SHOES!

DS's bag always has a change of clothes and some anbesol (he is still teething)

i leave nappies, wipes, suncream, hat at the nursery which saves lugging everything about

My nearly 2 year old takes:

2 changes of clothes (she is a particular muck-magnet)
Nappies
Wipes
Hat
Suncream
Coat
Wellies (get left there in the welly bucket)

Most of that gets left there (wipes, nappies, cream, wellies) and the rest goes in her bag which I top up before we go. I only label big stuff eg coat and shoes as her clothes are cheap and cheerful - having said that they haven't lost anything yet!
