Am I being a sheep?

DS2 went to a private nusery (pre-school)in the grounds of his state school.

While he was there I was reasonably happy with it, although I had a few small concerns, I always felt I was being unreasonabel as I was comparing it to DS1's nursery, which has been fantastic.

DD was due to start at this nursery in September.

A few weeks ago an execllent member of staff left, then last week the manager suddenly left. (She was the 6th manager in 2 years)I've now learned that another member of staff is due to leave, leaving 2 that I'm a bit about.

This week I've spoken to 2 mums who sent their elder DC to the nursey, but are not sending thier younger DC in September. Apparently, mid morning visits by these parents (and others) have found the place in chaos.

On this basis I have decided not to send DD to this nursey in September.

For some reason I feel like I'm being a sheep and following everybody else (well, 6 people) Am I?

OK, so no one has an opinion on this!

Sounds like you have good reason to listen to them, although maybe you should try a spot-check yourself. Is there time left this term?

Maybe the place was in chaos because there were staff problems. If they get sorted, as they'll have to, otherwise the nursery casn't open in September, all will be OK again - bar the teething problems.

Where are you sending your DD in September then?

Hi

As a nursery manager this indicates something is wrong there. The only real way to tell is to visit yourself but sometimes one staff member leaving does set of a chain of events that cause a temporary shock wave. Why not go an see for yourself and then make a decision based on what you find, they might have taken on a fab manager who is kicking a few butts into shape and will have things shipshape in no time.

I'm going to leave DD in they day nursey she's being going 2 days a week (9-3), while I work, since last October, where she is very happy, and I know she's safe. I was going to send her to this new nursey the other 3 mornings, so she would have been at 2 different settings during the week.

I'd already decided I didn't want her at the school nursery all day, but thought 9-11:30am wouldn't hurt too much.

Mummywannabe - they may take on a great manager, but the last 4 managers have, sadly, been poor.

In that case sounds like an deep routed problem with the owners, nobody is that unlucky! Your right to steer clear in my opinion

cosima · 26/06/2008 21:48

why are you worried about being a sheep. you heard some bad reports and based your decision on your latest findings. completely normal

LynetteScavo · 26/06/2008 21:55

.Thanks, Mummywannabe. For some reason I'm feeling a bit sad I've made this decission, but I think it's for selfish reasons.

  1. I was looking forward to getting some house work done when she was there.

  2. I was hoping to meet some new mums.

Oh well.
