and the mum was a close friend?

ds goes to nursery weds & thurs, i droppd him off this morning and was a bit taken aback to see my friends ds already there, considering he threw up yesterday afternoon and into the evening. her ds was looking ok, but still, could pass on the bug.

would you tell the nursery?, i'm afraid i did, i feel bad now, but i'll be really cross if my ds catches anything today.

That's difficult. She shouldn't have taken him in so soon after a sickness bug. But I probably wouldn't have said anything to the nursery - but I might have mentioned to her that nursery's policy of keeping them home for 48 hours following a vomiting bug (that's the usual policy).

lucykate · 26/06/2008 09:46

she knows about the policy as she did mention it yesterday.

i do wish i'd kept my mouth shut though

I wouldn't have said anything to the nursery at all

but I would say to my friend 'oh, I didn't think I would see you today seeing as though he is ill '

does she work/have commitments?

misdee · 26/06/2008 09:49

i would've told as well.

she works one day a week, which is today.

it was tricky, as i was in the middle of telling ds's key worker at nursery, that ds had been in contact with the other little boy, and the other little boy was poorly, so was just warning nursery, in case my ds started showing any signs of it, to ring me straight away. then, over her shoulder, i spotted the other little boy was already there.

she knew it was him i was referring to because my face must have looked a bit surprised and i said 'oh, what's he doing here?'

I agree with little lapin. If you didn't know sick child was there and you were warning nursery, then you were doing the responsible parent thing!

lucykate · 26/06/2008 10:03

i feel bad, because we've all, no doubt, been in a similar position, ie having commitments and few options for childcare.

but, at the same time, i'm cross with her as i was there when her ds started vomiting, he was not well at all, for putting me in that position. she knows my ds goes to nursery today too, she didn't forewarn me of her plans, and i'll be even crosser if my ds comes down with it today, after having contact with her ds at nursery, when her ds really shouldn't be there!

Tricky but you did not do anything wrong. I have a friend whose DD is friends with mine, she often sends her DD to school when she really should not be there because she works. I know it is tricky for her but her DD has been known to come in after being sick in the school carpark!! She knows about the 48 hour rule but says she has to work and that if it was really serious the school would track her down.

lucykate · 26/06/2008 16:26

well, turns out that she did ring the nursery and tell them this morning that he's been ill, and they had said it was ok to take him in, but after i'd put my foot in my mouth, sounds like they changed their mind, as they rang her at 9, and asked her to go and pick him up.

saw them on the school run, and she was a bit miffed, not with me, with the nursery for back tracking and said her ds was fine, but tbh, he didn't look fine to me, he did still look ill, so was probably best he did go home today.

Do not feel bad, you probably saved a few others from infection! He was better off at home and am sure the nursery staff would not want to catch it either. There are strict health & safty rules regarding infection control but not everyone pays regard to them!
