Not sure if aibu/ paranoid. Please be kind.

When My child comes home from nursery there always seems to be happy cream literally so close to the anus it is almost in. It feels strange nursery are going so far? Usually I just pull cheeks apart and cream around.

Child is ok going into nursery but always cries when me or dh go to collect

Am I overthinking?

It's very normal for babies to cry when you pick them up. It's a huge rush of emotion for them and it's relief/ happiness you're there.

Nappy rash starts at the bum hole so cream can obviously go there, they will have really strict protocols around nappy changes. If the worst were happening (abuse) you'd see other signs but they should have a safeguarding document (or something similar?) so you can always ask for it. Or just go speak to the manager :) they'd rather you ask than be worrying

You’re overthinking.
I honestly thought you were going to say they weren’t using cream!!

The cream needs to go everywhere that nappy rash may occur. The most sensitive skin included. You’re absolutely over thinking. It’s a baby in a nappy. People are going to be touching baby during change and cleaning. There is zero sexual element to any of it.

Massively overthinking it!
Im a childminder, if I need to apply it I just put it everywhere, to totally cover the area.

Also try and keep a reasonable perspective. There aren’t ‘lots’ of cases in the news. There are very very statistically rare incidences that may or may not be reported accurately, and There are millions of children. Of course we all want our children to be safe and cared for. And anything less is not acceptable. Any other concerns speak to your nursery or move to a setting where you have more trust.

If the bumholes sore you need to cream it not around it?

hecalledmecaptain · 29/06/2026 20:51

The anus is where the cream needs to go!

WhatILoved · 30/06/2026 13:01

Remember those caring for your child will be wearing gloves so we put the cream everywhere without overthinking it. If your child has a sore bum then yes it needs to be applied round anus.

I agree with the others. Crying when you pick them up is pretty normal and doesn’t mean that they’ve been unsettled.

We were lucky enough that my DPs and DILs looked after ours. They’d have a lovely day with two doting DGPs and still would get upset when I turned up sometimes.
