ds started hitting at nursery

We recently moved up North and my ds, 15mo started nursery when he was 8mo, seetled in and been really happy with it. Last month the lovely girl who has been looking after him left and he's now with someone new. For the past two weeks when I collected him I have been told he's been hitting other children and staff. I feel awful about this and a bit confused as he never does it at home, playgroup or before at nursery. I mentioned it to the manager last week who was very relaxed about it explaining it happens, their policy and that it's quite normal which made me feel much better. However when I spoke to the actual person who looks after my son and asked was he doing it as a game or a bit grumpy she replied no, it was spiteful. Is it just me or is it odd to label a child spiteful at this age? It's made me really upset and wondered if I'm over reacting to this comment??

I don't think it's spiteful, I think he preferred his other helper, or at least is not used to this one yet, and she sounds like she doesn't like him. Suggest a different keyworker? My DD did not like one of her key workers and attached herself to one of the work experience girls, we are still in touch 3 years on!

i would be FURIOUS if my DS's key worker called my son spiteful

shows a total mis-understanding of how a 15 month old is meant to behave

the nursery manager sounds much more sensible in her attitude, which is they all do it and they all grow out of it

i would speak to the manager about your DD's key worker without question
