What would you prefer re: childminder?

I am registering as a childminder, but I’m still waiting on my DBS which could be another month or more due to local backlogs. I need to start as soon as I’m registered as the process has already taken 5 months and I’ve now finished my previous job.

Because I can’t give parents a definite start date yet, would you prefer to go on a waiting list to come and visit the setting, or visit now and go on a waiting list to get a start date?

Neither is great and I feel like lots of people will drop out as they want childcare ASAP. I can’t really take deposits without being able to give a date. Everything is done except the DBS and the agency asked if I already have children lined up so it seems common to advertise in advance

Visit now, parents need to know if they like a setting before joining a waiting list, if you are taking babies, it’s common to want childcare lined up but not to need to start straight away.

I think visit now and go on a waiting list to start. I sorted nursery whilst still pregnant even though mine didn’t start until 9MO.

Visit the setting. Why would you go on a wait list for months just to look when you might not like it

Yes this is what I was thinking. I will do a video walkthrough of the house to weed out time wasters, but if parents are looking now then they’d probably go with a setting that they can at least visit right now

Visit and work out if it's a good fit. Then waitinglist.
