My sons recently started nursery 4 weeks back (his items are all labelled with his name from shoes to socks and tops etc).

In the space of 2 days weve now lost a Jacket which was brand new, a brand new pair of gloves and matching hat and today another older hat has gone missing. I know one of the parent from going to the same school as each other they checked for me and said that they hadn’t found anything.

Call me crazy but I’m getting a bit ticked off as thats 3 things in 2 days and frankly I cant afford to keep replacing things. Has anyone had this issue at all is that normal to loose so much stuff in such a short amount of time?
Has anyone ever had to raise the issue?

Stuff does go missing at nursery, there are lots of kids and lots of stuff so it’s really hard for the nursery to keep track of it all. Ours usually showed up in the lost property box eventually but it could take a while to work its way there.

some tips:

use elastic to attach gloves to coat sleeves. I use a long bit threaded up one sleeve, through the loop on the back of the neck and down the other sleeve, then stitched a glove to each end. Elastic was better than non-stretchy cord because it was easier to get hands into gloves.

Hats I just bought the absolute cheapest Woolley hats from the £1 shop or market and she had about 5 at any one time, then if one went missing for a while it didn’t matter.

Thank you!

My mums going to stitch the gloves to the strings for me as I don’t trust my sewing skills entirely lol!

It’s annoying more than anything as I stopped a kids a few weeks back trying to pinch his drinks bottle, the nursery leader had tried to stop him but he bolted out of the door with it to the outdoor play area and I caught it just as he came running my direction with it (doesnt help the coat pegs are all within reach of the children and all the kids can go into each others bags).
I think I’ll do a poundshop spree and buy the cheapest ones so his nice sets aren’t disappearing!

As someone who works in a nursery it’s an impossible task sometimes. We have approx 70 in our nursery across a full day and it’s so hard to keep everything for every child together.

children just throw their belongings on the floor and unless we recognise what they have been wearing or it’s clearly named then we end up with piles of lost property at the end of a week.

i don’t know what the solution is either. Winter is the worst time with hats, gloves, welly socks, etc .

my advice is to buy the cheapest of cheapest clothes for nursery eg hats, gloves, jackets and keep decent clothes for outside of nursery.

Theres not 70 kids there luckily only about 10 max!

Ive got a load of older clothing but we only have so much in the sense of winter stuff as he’s so picky and will only wear specific hats/gloves and hoodies. Im half tempted to just stick them in his bag and hope they come back. I watched him put the hat in his bag yesterday morning and today so I know he had them both so they’ve gone missing a day apart.

I’ve messaged the manager of the nursery and asked her to ask people to check the bags and please return the items as they are labelled with his name so it should be a no brainer to be bringing them back. (I certainly will be doing if we get any rogue items!) im guessing the fact spiderman and bluey were on them probably might play apart in them going walkies as kids are kids and like other peoples things 🙈
