My grandson (3) caught hand, foot and mouth within a month of starting at his nursery. So far, in 2 years being there, he's had it 3 times, as well as various other bugs and illnesses.

If you last a week you've done well!

TTCJJB · 12/09/2025 21:01

We've never had one in 12 months

Day 1

Sunshineclouds11 · 12/09/2025 21:03

3/4 weeks.
not had a stomach bug yet and started in Jan.

hand foot and mouth twice
chest infection
the usual nursery cough and cold

Not at all at that age.

Is yours potty trained? I found that was a game changer because when they use the loo, quite frequently probably at aged 2.5-3, then they also wash their hands.

My wee one goes to nursery Mon, Tues & Wed. By the first Thursday, he was floored (and I mean FLOORED!) with a flu type virus and was too unwell to go to nursery at all the following week. It then did the rounds of the whole family! He’s been there for 5 months now and has only had a handful of days where he doesn’t have a runny nose or a wee cough but he’s totally fine in himself. We’ve not had any instances of D&V but I’m sure it will happen eventually!
I like to think if he picks these things up now, he’ll be less likely to get as sick as time goes on - probably wishful thinking 😂

When mine was in nursery, she got
ill after her first 30 mins settling session 😆buckle in for a wild ride of back to back viruses for the foreseeable. I still have a PTSD from those days.

A week? My youngest has had a nasty cold this weekend

Sorry to say but this is a myth. The reason they catch things less in school is just because their immune system is more mature by then. They don’t need the back to back illnesses when they’re young to achieve it though- it actually does the opposite, it weakens the immune system as it doesn’t have a chance to recover in between the bugs.

Hi all thanks , I can confirm he already has his first illness : cold / cough runny nose and lost his voice slightly. Ahh welll , I expected it, it’s not too bad .
