Letchworth Busy Bees - any experiences?

Hello, first time parents navigating nursery selection here. Does anyone have experience of Busy Bees in Letchworth that they would be happy to share? All signs are positive, but I'm wondering whether being part of a chain will make it feel 'corporate' (appreciate that might sound silly). We'll be starting our child there from about age 1. Thanks so much in advance!

I have no experience of the nursery, but I do know I'm flooded with ads everyday for jobs at that particular nursery chain. Either they're expanding rapidly, or they can't hold onto staff.

Thanks, I can understand the logic and your raising it, but equally feel it is fair for me to be open-minded as not all branches will be the same.

All nurseries have a staff issue. Many have closed because they just can't get people to do the job.

I've done supply in many nurseries including many Busy Bees. You're right about not all branches being the same. Over the years they've taken over lots of small chains so a lot of the quality depends on what the nursery was before. Some of them are acceptable.

A quick google shows a dull building in a car parking area with a baby garden that's a fenced off bit of car park. It's a no from me.

Smarty's Day Nursery in Hitchin looks good though. A gallery full of children getting stuck in rather than empty rooms laid out nicely. And got to love giant foot painting!

Thank you. Appreciate your reply and insight. The Letchworth site has two spacious outdoor spaces, one small one at the front, and a very large one at the back, and is expanding the outside area further this month. The outdoor space was what I found most appealing of everything to be honest. But I do also appreciate your 'getting stuck in' comment as that was one of the things I was really looking for too. Pros and cons. (The location of Smarty's doesn't work for us at all, unfortunately).

Just checked the "small spacious" outdoor area at the front and seen It's overlooked by the block of flats next door and has zero privacy.

Have a few friends with kids there who are very happy with it. It’s really big though and when we went to look around I found the preschool room a lot for just turned 3 year olds. Depends on the child though! Mine went to a smaller Busy Bees 10 mins away in the end, I was sniffy about chains but really it’s about whether the staff are good, and ours were.

It’s also heavily booked up with a long waiting list though so bear that in mind.

Thanks - this is helpful to know. I'm glad you're happy and found somewhere that worked for you. I agree - I an conscious that it is about the staff (which is sometimes hard to pick up from a visit, and of course the physical space, in person or by googling... can't give a heap of detail on that!).

Could I ask if you ended up registering with Busy Bees in Letchworth in the end? It’s currently at the top of our list but there’s something holding me back slightly which I can’t quite put my finger on! Not sure if it’s general anxiety at the thought of leaving our little one with strangers.

My son has been at busy bees Letchworth for 3 years and my daughter has been there for a year. Both started around their first birthday.
Personally we can't fault them, both our children settled in really well. They have always had wonderful key workers. They're recently done a full refurbishment of the gardens. Communication is good. Also one of the benefits of a big chain is they have been able to absorb a lot of the changes around the government funding which came in this year.
You need to go with your gut, good luck x
