Is nursery free for 2 year olds with working parents?

I’m so confused. I’m currently not working and my husband works full time. He earns over £50k a year. We’re looking at moving house soon which would mean an increase in mortgage so I need to start working. Looking at getting a part time job but I’m so confused about childcare fees. I know it used to be not free for under 3s but I was under the impression the govt had changed this for working parents now. Can anyone give me any advice on this? I don’t seem to be getting much clarification on the govt website.

I wonder what government website your looking at then. Take a look on childcarechoices.gov.uk for all tbe info.

The childcare is not free but from September children over 9 months will be eligible for 30 hours of funded childcare (term time only so if they go every week this works out as 22 hours per week). Depending on how many hours your child attends you will need to pay for hours on top of this and things like food, nappies , some activities and many nurseries have other daily charges. When my DS1 was in nursery and in receipt of 30 hours we still paid but when he moved to a preschool attached to a school which was only open 9-3 he did 4 days which was fully covered by the funded hours. The amount you need to pay will vary between settings. Remember you can also use tax free childcare.
