my just 3 year old has been in nursery 4 days a week for 3 weeks. Not been to any setting previouosly. Has had difficulty settling in and the nursery was helping by they say providing one to one support. but now they say he can only go on two mornings a week as they dont have enough staff in the pre school room to watch him . Just started a job as single mum, on UC, need to work. Can they do this, surely they should provde the support he needs until he has settled. he does not have SEND he is bright, just all new to him and maybe hard work for them compared to the other nursery chlldren who might have all gone through the system there.

Yes OP they can do this, they could also turn round tomorrow and say it’s not working out and that he’s not welcome back. Every child is different and takes a different amount of time to settle, some children never settle in nursery and need a different setting. At age 3 I’m not surprised the nursery can’t facilitate him having someone dedicated to just him, typically the ratio by age 3 would be 1 member of staff per 8 pupils, ish, so it’s simply not possible for a member of staff to JUST be with you child.

It'll only be temporary until he's more settled. Be thankful they're looking out for him. He must be very distressed.
