How to cancel nursery place

Im moving my DC out of current nursery as I do not feel like this is the place for my DC any longer. DC has attended for a year.

I know the staff will ask why DC is leaving, what do I say? I need to provide a 1 month notice before leaving also, so will be still seeing them a while after notifying them.

Why do you feel the nursery isn't the right place?

Diamond345 · 03/05/2025 22:48

It hasn't felt right for a long time, I don't feel like my DC has bonded with the staff, they are not very warm. They are very disorganised, lack of updates , lack of activities being arranged for the children. Mainly free play . Staff seem quite miserable and unenthusiastic with the children. Iv heard them sounding snappy when telling off.

Tbh they shouldn’t ask why you are leaving, if they do just say circumstances have changed and you are no longer needing the place.

At the end of you are feeling like you want the nursery to know you are unhappy email the manager with a list of everything that went wrong/that you feel they could improve on.

@notsureyetcertainthanks for your suggestion, I think the key workers will ask why. But il aim to be as vague as possible as I don’t want to cause any issues whilst my ds is there. I’m not sure wether I should email them after, will it be worth doing ?

I think so, it wouldn’t change anything for you as you have already made your decision but hopefully to improve quality going forward.

At this stage keep it vague. Write a formal email saying due to a change of circumstances you need to change nursery and this is your planned last day. This way you’re giving them relevant notice.

If you feel you need to address any issues that could make you change your mind then book a meeting with the manager with your concerns. They should keep this confidential from other staff but it would make them look at improving things.

If you get funding you may not be able to claim elsewhere until September as head count day has passed.

I think you absolutely should raise your concerns. You should ask for a meeting with the manager.
