Nursery bite

So my 1 year old was bit really hard on his face and the bite mark is big and still very dark 2 weeks later.

I'm concerned it won't completely fade.

Any experiences?

It was initially really red with a bit of broken skin. It is now brown.

I honestly thought it would fade in a week to 10 days.

Your poor DC. I’d put arnica or almond oil on it daily to help prevent scarring.

Thank you, I do feel sad about it. Hoping it won't happen again. I will get some, I hope it isn't too late to start putting something on it in terms of effectiveness.

The bite still hasn't gone it is very big and dark and a little rough to touch.

Should I be questioning how long before it was intercepted (they said a few seconds). I am very concerned it is going to scar and feel quite sad about it.

Also if anyone has any experiences of a really bad bite not scarring after x amount of weeks I will be really grateful to hear!

Have you taken him to the doctors? Is it possibly infected?

3teens2cats · 27/04/2025 14:00

If it's not healing then get it checked. Mouths are germy places so there is the possibility of an infection.

LIZS · 27/04/2025 14:12

Did you have it checked at the time? A friend working in a send school said policy was to always have bites cleaned by hcp.

Hyperquiet · 27/04/2025 14:17

Oops I meant to say not fading

The broken skin was very minimal the actual bite was really hard. I didnt have it checked at the time as the broken skin was minimal.

It looks brown and texture is rough and it is big so I didnt think it was infected.

Had the same with DD2, bite on her cheek. Took months to fade and was dark purple colour for a long long time, especially in cold weather. Now no scar or discolouration at all.

Thanks so much. That's reassuring to hear. How long approx did it take - was it around 6 months to completely go?

I don't really remember, but it was an surprisingly long time, could have been 6 months easily. I didn't use any arnica though, so might be an idea to try that? And also it looked a lot worse when exposed to cold weather, dark shadow type mark for a long time.

I will look into arnica thank you.
