Nursery questioning

My DS suffers with eczema and he has dry patches mainly on his face, but today the nursery has questioned me about a little cut on his face. I noticed it as a dry patch Thursday which has progressively got worst, I’ve not noticed him falling over and grazing himself or anything.. I’m normally really good if he has something I will tell them straight away if he’s fallen over and got a bruise etc. Does anyone know what it looks like? I just thought it was dummy dermatitis or impetigo maybe.. it caught me off guard as it wasn’t that bad when I dropped him off & I don’t want them to think I’ve caused it as they’ve never asked me before.

That doesn’t look like a cut to me. I’d ring the GP first thing in case it is Impetigo as that is highly contagious. It may be a bacterial infection that needs antibiotic cream. My eldest had cream for something similar looking when he was a toddler.

Okay thank you, will do that! It’s because they said to me they want to know how it’s happened and I thought I don’t have a clue, where he always wears his dummy (he’s only 1) I didn’t notice it being like that otherwise I would’ve done it today

Doesn't look like a cut to me either. Defo could be eczema, bacterial infection. Ring the GP and they will most likely prescribe cream. Silly of the nursery to say that, when you can clearly see that's no cut lol.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 14/04/2025 18:58

Looks more like a burn than a cut. Contact the GP to see if it’s an infection

homeedmam · 14/04/2025 19:01

Probably started as a bit of dry skin but it does look like it could be impetigo now.

seaduck · 14/04/2025 19:02

Yeah it looks similar to impetigo, it doesnt look loads like a cut tbh

SassyCrab · 14/04/2025 19:04

Shall I keep him off nursery tomorrow? I actually suffer with impetigo myself so I hope it isn’t but I wouldn’t be surprised!

A pharmacist can diagnose and give you antibiotics if it is impetigo now, the rules changed recently on this so you don't need to fight to get him into the GP. I'd go and see what they say first thing, if they say it isn't I would still take him to nursery, but if it is I think you are usually excluded for 48h after starting the cream.

Baggyprincess · 14/04/2025 22:12

I think that looks like it could be impetigo and that’s probably why they’re asking. Don’t panic, go and see a pharmacist for advice & potentially treatment. I would consult the pharmacist before returning to nursery.

Could be asking in case it’s something that needs treating/is contagious, and could be asking from a safeguarding perspective.

Pop along to see the pharmacist and see what they recommend 🙂
