How bad is sickness going to be when baby starts nursery?

Baby will be 11 months when starting nursery. How bad can I expect nursery bugs to be in those first few weeks lol? Will it help reduce illness if I continue to breastfeed?

How did you manage sick children while working ? Me and partner will be mostly wfh so would easily be able to pick up baby but won’t be able to take lots of extra time off

The first 6-8 months are brutal with illness. That will be the case though no matter what age they are or if they skip nursery altogether and go to school. In my son's first week of nursery he got a sickness bug and hand foot and mouth!

They can be but that wasn't my experience at all, other than chicken pox I dont remember my children being ill while at nursery

That was pre COVID which maybe makes a difference as people seem much avoidant od exposure to everyday germs now

We never have had the big named ones; hand foot and mouth, chicken pox etc etc.

But I swear he only ever made it in a day a week for the first 3 months. Continuous fevers, diarrhoeas, colds etc etc.

My 14 month old started in September. I have an older child in year 1 too. It's been crap. He only goes three days a week and his had just under 30 days off nursery since he started. Colds, temps, stomach bugs. If he has a temp it's 48 hours off, if he has diarrhoea it's 48 hours off each time.

However, I think it is luck of the draw. Some of my friends have not had anything like this.

Bad bad bad on our experience! Viral infection after viral infection, hand foot and mouth, chicken pox, sickness bugs. My husband has a poor immune system and ended up in ICU due to a bug our child came home with! Extreme case that though!

Oh and I ended up hospitalised with viral meningitis after a bug.
We're clearly a pair of weaklings though so you'll have a better time than us hopefully 🤣🤣

Mine started in November aged 8.5 months. He's breastfed. He has had a sniffly nose and the odd day of seeming a bit off but hasn't had to be off nursery until the after- effects of his mmr etc

We didn't have much illness come home when we started nursery but they did go a bit later (at 2 and 3), and there had been a lot of children socialising before then at playgroups and with family members. So might depend how much they have been exposed to already. My son was in year 1 before he got chicken pox.

It depends on the child but also on the nursery. Some send children home with a very low bar, other are happy to have a snotty child is or one with a cough as long as they don’t have a temp/seem okay in themselves. So obviously that impacts how much time your child is off.
