Childminders vs nursery

Wanted to get a few opinions… I need to go back to work once my baby turns 12/13months. But after researching costs of nurseries vs childminders I would ideally like to use a childminder. My only concerns are if they are ill what happens???

do you pay?
do they normally have a back up to help out?
will I need to take time off too?
obviously we can’t predict this but how often have you guys been effected by this?

it would financially be a huge benefit to go down the child minded route but just worried over the potential issues which could arise.

Find a childminder that works with one or two other childminders assistants in the same premises.
it also gives me peace of mind knowing there are several adults around, we all know how it feels to have a bad day and to feel overwhelmed with kids.

Childminder:
Often cheaper/more flexible
Your baby gets to bond with one stable person
You get to choose who looks after your baby
But, you have to find alternative care if they're sick or on holiday

Nursery:
Generally will be open all year as there will always be staff to cover holidays and sickness
But, on the other hand - your baby will have to adapt to being cared for by a range of people and you might not meet the people caring for them

Each childminder will have their own policies but typically you pay if you choose not to attend ie holiday or illness but don't pay when they close. Bear in mind a childminder will probably take 4 or 5 weeks holidays a year.
