Soaking wet trousers/nappy on day one

Hi all,

just want to get people’s opinions as I am very sleep deprived from my youngest, so I don’t know if I am over reacting.

we recently moved house and I am back to work next week following my second mat leave.

My eldest starts a new nursery next week (3 full days a week) this is a big private chain nursery, one that is very well known.

he went for his second settling in session today and was there for 3 hours. He seems happy and was happily playing when I went to get him. However when I got him in the car I noticed his trousers were trenched and his nappy had leaked. He hasn’t been changed as it was the same nappy I sent him in.

I phoned the nursery and they apologised and I have followed up with an email
to understand their nappy changing policies as we are working hard on potty training at home so it’s worrying they haven’t checked his nappy at all.

i understand these things happen, but I would have thought he would have been interacted with and closely monitored at a 3 hour settling in session.

what’s your opinions? Am I over reacting?

It's his second session and it was 3 hours a nappy should really hold and not leak after 3 hours you had a complaint they followed up and apologised move forward with his potty training plan and the nursery will get to know him better, you didn't overreact you had a concern.

I agree with the pp, a nappy really shouldn’t be leaking after 3 hrs and it’s seems like they’ve apologised and taken it on board. As a side note if you are potty training at home, you really should really have spoken to the nursery before his settling session and not sent him in a nappy as you child will just find it confusing if he’s in pants at home and the a nappy at nursery.

When I say we are potty training at home, he has a potty and he uses it happily at home for wees. We haven’t taken the jump to not wearing nappies out the house as he will not wear pants and the few times I have tried he has an accident straight away. it’s the jump I was going to take once he was settled in to the new nursery.. I am very much taking the approach of he will do it when he’s ready with the potty training but getting him used to it at home seems to be working for us right now.. I hope I’m not confusing him though. Agree a nappy shouldn’t leak after 3 hours, he was guzzling his drink before he went in so I guess that is why. I just thought they would have seen his wet trousers and funny walk.. hopefully just a mistake that doesn’t happen again.

The other angle to consider is that if he’s starting to master bladder control then you move to the point where it’s a single massive wee, rather than lots of little ones. Which can floor the nappy so it may have been fine for 2hr44 and soaked in the last 10 mins.

@ScaryM0nster this is very true. Oh god I don’t want to be labelled as that mum at nursery complaining already! I got 2 hours sleep last night so it really got to me when I picked him up and he was soaked through.
