Full time nursery & constantly ill

I guess I'm here seeking a little reassurance, any advice also greatly appreciated. Our 18 month old has been full time at Nursery since September. The guilt I feel is immense but that's another story.

Since starting, he's on just under 60% attendance due to constant illness. It's pretty much the same thing every other week - diarrhea, bit of sickness, goes off his food. He's usually better about 5 days later, manages a week back at Nursery before the next illness.

It's having a massive impact on my work and I worry its just going to continue.

Is this normal? Is my child's immune system just not strong enough yet? I guess being full time means he's getting the very worst of what's going around at Nursery and won't avoid it.

Does anybody have any advice or some words of wisdom to make me feel a little better? 🤗I can't even bring myself to think of the wasted money, I guess it will all be worth it when he starts School!

This is very normal and it will get better as his immune system continues to develop

Normal... and it does improve! Just feels impossible at this stage.

Normal. Nothing you can do about it. Your productivity at work will be down for the next year, after that it starts to improve. Just ride it out and remind yourself you are raising a new human being. Overall your productivity is awesome.

Veeeery normal. My DS has been in nursery for almost two years and since early October he's been ill literally every two weeks...

Normal.

Knuckle down. This is your life until April.

I say this with sympathy. Both my kids were September nursery starters. I started a new job around the same time Child 1 started nursery. If anyone is thinking of doing this, don’t. I spent the first 4 months worrying I was going to be sacked, I was off so much. Covid time too so even the smallest hint of a fever and he was out of nursery until we got to a test centre and got a negative test. Honestly the worst 6 or 7 months I can think of in recent history.

Child 2 is a little more robust but I’m very much looking forward to them having a couple of weeks off at Christmas, just to get a break from the constant coughs, snots and other nasties and be well for more than 4 days at a time.

It passes. X
