DS to start afternoon sessions preschool in sept but still has afternoon naps!

DS will be 2yrs 9 months in sept when he starts afternoon sessions at my chosen local preschool (would have preferred mornings but that will be following year). He currently sleeps through approx 10 hours per night and has a 2 hr nap in the afternoon 1 to 3 which suits me just fine! However, will obviously not be able to have this nap in sept so would you start reducing/cutting out the nap now or wait until nearer the time. Do think he will be ok not having a nap at that age? and I assume his night time sleep will lengthen accordingly. Also the preschool starts at 12:15 (again a pain) so will be having to get lunch down him pretty quickly 11:30 ish does anyone find this a problem? They are open 4 days and have booked him in for 4 days but because he will be my only child and like spending time with himI like to take him swimming and we go to toddler group and do other activities I really would only like him to go for a couple of sessions a week am I being selfish? Would send him for the full sessions next year in his preschool year. Would appreciate any comments

I am having exactly the same problem at the moment. My ds will be 3 and 3 months in Sept when he is due to start.
Like your ds my ds still has a afternoon nap.The pre school we are looking at only has afternoon sessions at this age and five afternoons!
Like you i enjoy spending time with ds and doing different activities and also like you acknowledge he needs more stimulation.
I don't think your being selfish for wanting him to go less days.
Could you look at other pre schools in your area as thet really differ with times and how many days they must attend?

I think you can choose how many days, we went for two mornings in the end, and at the end of the day they don't have to go if you don't fancy it.

My DD went for the first time this week, tears when I left, but she loved it, made a new friend and can't wait to go back.

I have just turned down a place at a pre school as they wouldn't allow anything but five mornings.I'm sure it's all to do with funding!
It just seems so much.
I have now found a great one that we can choose how many sessions ds attends.

My dd's preschool lets you choose so she started with 2 mornings (she started last April at 2.7 and as she is a september baby so free place wouldnt have started till January and she was so bored at home and dd2!!) when she got her funded places in January we upped her to 3 mornings a week (I work 2 days a week and my Mum/MIL have the dd's) in September she'll go 4 days a week and my Mum will take her on Mondays. She'll never go 5 days a week as MIL doesnt drive and cant get her there or back.

Also with naps you may find that your ds drops his naps before September on his own (my dd1 was around 2 and decided no sleep in the day ) alternatively he may be stimulated by the new environment he may not want to nap (although he may fall asleep on way home so that could prove tricky(

When DD1 dropped her naps her night routine stayed the same no no extra sleep at night (she sleeps 6.30-6)
