Splitting nursery hours allowed?

My 1yr old DD starts nursery 2 days a week in Jan, she qualifies for the 15 term time hours for 9+ month olds, the nursery stretches these to cover the whole year so it’s more like 11 hours.

The nursery runs 10 hour days, but realistically she’ll only be there for 6, maybe 8 tops. Can we split those free hours so they cover more? Currently we get 1 day covered + 1 hour for the second day.

I’m guessing probably not, shame though.

You need to ask your nursery as it's up to them. It seems like an obvious no, but you can ask. Nobody here will be able to give an accurate answer though

It’s completely up to the individual nursery. They make their own polices on this. But it’s unlikely as collecting a child a couple of hours before they close doesn’t allow them to fill the space.

It probably depends on how they run their sessions. For example they might have morning, afternoon, core hours and wrap around hours sessions. You will probably have your hours put into whatever session block you need and the funded hours will be included in whichever session you use even if you pick up earlier than he finish time.

If you want shorter days and the nursery say they can't do that and split the hours I would look for another nursery and see if someone else can, or try a childminder who may charge by the hour.

As PP said - the nursery will have a policy of how they offer those hours. Usually it’s either sessions (08.45-11.45, 12.30-15.30 for example) or days, but if days you pay for the hours you are eligible regardless of when you actually pick her up. So if the free hours are 8-6, but you drop her off at 9 and collect at 5, you are still technically using the 8-9 and 5-6 hours.

Ask for a fee sheet - you may get a shock otherwise when she joins.
