Hi everyone.
DS is currently at a private nursery, Iv just got my 15 hour funding this month and they would like £90 a month to cover for breakfast and lunch. My friend who's child is starting this month has been asked to pay £30 a month for breakfast and lunch. After speaking to other parents it seems like they are charging whatever they can. Some pay £20 some £60. All the children are 2 -3 and in the toddler room..

Is this right. ? Seems a bit unfair to charge different rates to different parents.

Surely it depends on how many days they do? They won't be charging different people different amounts for the same amount of days/hours.

It is normal now, the funding doesn't cover the cost of providing the childcare so they have to make up the shortfall.

Give him breakfast before he goes, and a packed lunch.
Though £3 per day (ish) is quite good for two meals a day - as long as it's not just toast etc.

That's where I'm confused with the amount. We all do the same number of days and hours. Are children are same age too so can't understand the difference in cost.
Before I got my funding they said to me they charge £60 a month for meals but this has now gone up to £90.
Fair enough but they are charging others £20, £30..

How many days do you do?

Zayyus · 16/09/2024 15:51

3 days 5 hours a day.
No packed lunches allowed.

And your friend is doing exactly the same? Or are they doing their hours over fewer days?

Are your hours 8am-1pm each day?

The payment is only nominally for the food - in reality it is a top up because nurseries cannot make ends meet on the government allowed amount - but it is a little confusing as to why you are not all the same.

Are your hours term time only or are they averaged over the year meaning you get c11h funded a week?

Zayyus · 16/09/2024 16:10

Yes we are all doing the same hours 8-1, term time only. Children are the same age too. They told me additional charge for food will be £90, told my friend it's £30 and another parent said she's been asked to pay £20.
Yes that's what I don't understand why we are not all paying the same for food. My amount is a big difference.

Ask them.

Tumbleweed101 · 17/09/2024 17:53

Have some of the children already turned 3 and getting 30hrs funding? There is a big difference in funding rates depending on if you're getting the 15hr 9 mth funding, 15hr 2yo funding or 15/30hr 3yo funding which could possibly explain why there is some difference. Best just to query with them though and ask for a break down of fees.
