How much do you pay for nursery

2YO qualifies for 15 free hours
1YO qualifies for 15 free hours in sept

both go for 3 full days a week all year round and updated fees for sept is £1031.

what’s bothering me is my friends son goes the same nursery and is entitled to the same funding but goes 2 days per week and her fees are £137 a month. I know I have a extra day each for both but it doesn’t make sense how that equates a £900 increase for me

Seems right to me or close

137 per day per child

137 x 2 x 3 is 822?

That sounds about right. You’re paying an extra £515.50 per child for an extra day a week, per month. Your friend is only paying for an extra half day, for one child. So you’re paying for eight times the amount she’s paying for.

30ish hours each = 60

60- (15 x 2) = 30

30 x £8ish an hour = £240

£240 x 51 = £12240 or £1020 a month.

Add in meals consumables and it's about right!

No, my maths don’t line up either OP.

If I read correctly, you’re using 24 days of nursery a month (2 kids x 3 days x 4 weeks), and your friend is using 8 days (1 kid x 2 days x 4 weeks).

Therefore you’re paying £1,031 / 24 = £43 per day and your friend is paying £137 / 8 = £17 a day, no?

Are you termtime only? As the 30 hours is only for 38 weeks a year or approx 22 per week year round.

The other issue could be that some nurseries offer their funded hours in sessions - ie 9-12/1-4 etc - max 6 hours per day - so you pay more for fewer, longer days

I don’t know how much it is per day, or if they charge extra consumables. As an estimate you should be paying ~4x the amount than your friend. However it is likely more than that with how it’s calculated. Not sure if it could reach 8x though.

Ask them for a breakdown. They might have not applied your youngest free hours? Alternatively they might be doing something odd between the eldest and youngest due to the funding cost. It’s still a huge jump though.

Your friend isn’t doing term time only are they? Eg getting 15hrs rather than 11hrs per week?
