Gifts for nursery workers they will actually like?

Hello,

My toddler will move up from baby room to next level of her nursery this September. There are 4 staff members in her current nursery room and I would like to get thank you gifts for them all.

What do you think they would actually appreciate receiving? Don't want to get them tat they won't like!

Any advice appreciated, thank you!

I used to work in a nursery and so did DH. Nice biscuits always went down well as we were on minimum wage so we only ever had cheap biscuits at home.

Great advice, so nice snacks is definitely on the list now. Thanks!

Hand cream is good. The amount of hand washing we do each day can take it's toll.
Chocolate and wine is always welcome, but you need to find out if all can have it/like it.

Maybe a Costa /Starbucks/Nero gift card for a few nice coffees

Best gifts I've recieved from parents (work as a nursery nurse myself) have been
Grazing box of cheese and crackers
Next vouchers
Posh choc and posh coffee
Hand cream, hand sanitiser, sleep spray, hair ties

All brilliant ideas, thanks very much!

I got my son's teachers and TAs a fancy box of macarons as an end of year gift , at Christmas it was mini cupcakes and at Easter I got them a selection of mini eggs and chocolate bars. I tend to go with something they can eat as that was my favourite kind of gift when I was a TA , a nice little treat for your tea break.

Gift vouchers. Don't go patronising them by buying coffee and biscuits for the staff room etc

FriendsDrinkBook · 02/08/2024 21:56

@summerdazey I don't think that it is patronising. Perhaps we were a terribly unsophisticated bunch , but having something nice with your morning coffee was something we all loved and appreciated.

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend. Nursery staff are not paid well on the whole so a voucher might be nice.

Honestly, any gifts I received were very much appreciated. Yes, even the box of biscuits, because it was just lovely to be thought of.

This is going to sound so eye-rolley, but after 17 years of nursery work, the best gifts I got (and still have) were:

1- a card made with the child's handprint made into a litte Christmas tree (can make anything with the hand print- bee, butterfly, etc.)

2- a handwritten card from the parent with a tiny photo of the child stuck inside it (obviously not everyone will feel comfortable doing this, but it was such a lovely touch. This was 12 years ago, and I often wonder how the child is doing now)

3- A little flower handprint the child had done, with "Thank You Nursery Teacher For Helping Me Grow" written at the bottom of it. The parents laminated it too and wrote the child's name and the date. Was adorable.

The handmade gifts were honestly the best ones, a lovely way to remember the child years later, especially since I have now changed my career. But then I am an old sentimental eejit and most other people probably do prefer vouchers or wine 🤣

Vouchers every single time. Anything edible is going to be hit and miss especially boxes to share but the gesture is appreciated.
