Email today from DC nursery. Due to extension of free hours, costs, staffing etc they have to put fees up. By 15%. From September. My LO is 9 months. My work can't be done part time so it's suck it up or quit. Just a bit of a rant really, such a big increase with such little notice.

Won't you get the 15 hours working parent entitlement?

WhatPostDoc · 02/07/2024 14:58

Yes, which brings it back down to roughly what it cost without free hours before the price increase. So basically they've increased their fees such that the 15 free hours that come in in September make zero difference to your bill.

Ah yes ours did this, but the increase was four times what we were paying with the free hours, after years of paying full whack, as essentially we were paying more to fund the new free hours for 2 year olds.
Not going to lie school in September and the difference to our finances is huge. It isn't how it should be at all. Not the nurseries fault either, then openly admitted they would go under if they didn't and we sucked it up as school is in sight.

12% for us from August, 10% for associated after school club for eldest (that went up 24% last year).

Think we're going to need to cut the hours of childcare we use.

No free hours here either.
