Is this amount of sickness normal?

My little one started nursery in September when she was 10 months. We went through the standard winter of various illnesses, colds coughs etc but since Easter she keeps having episodes of being sick, and it's getting to the point where I wonder I wonder whether it's more than just a bug.

She was sick at nursery:
End of March
End of April
Mid May
Mid June
Today

Two of these occasions I think we're genuine stomach bugs, but the other times she's just vomited once at nursery and then been completely fine (but obviously has to be off for 48 hours). It always tends to happen at the same time (late afternoon) after waking from a nap and nursery says she looks to have a tummy ache. No temperature either.

Did anyone else have something similar in the first year? Is it worth going to the doctors or are we just very unlucky?

I'm obviously very glad for her when she seems ok after being sick once and isn't really poorly, but it's making me think something is triggering it...

Yup. Perfectly normal. I worked in nursery’s for years. Kids get everything when they first start being together. Also happens to new members of staff. I knew when we had a new starter and they hadn’t worked with children that long we would loose them to regular illness until their immune systems got better.

I worked with children for over 30 years. I am never ill as my immune system is amazing after 30 years of working with sickness 😂

We are in our first year. We have had 2 sickness bugs, hand foot and mouth and loads of cold virus'. It's getting to the point I want to take him out!

Sounds very normal to me, sorry!

But if ur worried. I would make an appointment with the doctor. Maybe make a note of what she is eating before she is sick.

Thanks everyone! Good to know from past experience it's all normal. All those working in nurseries must have immune systems of steel.

As you say I think we've just been a bit unlucky in that its just happened a lot in quick succession. Hopefully she'll be back to her normal self soon and we'll keep a food diary just in case.

My first thought, it being waking after a nap, is does she tend to get distressed and cry when she wakes? My LO used to vomit when she cried excessively, and this has happened a couple of times at nursery when she has woken upset from a nap. I have no doubt that they are on hand to try to soothe her, but she has always been a poor sleeper and used to often wake very upset if she really needed a bit longer.

We have had a new cold every week at nursery for two winters, but (tempting fate now) haven’t had stomach bugs too often.

It took at least a year (probably just over) for my eldest to build up a "nursery tolerance".

My youngest didn't take as long - probably because he got his share off his big sister!

BUT they were fine at school. Only ever caught one sickness bug each in the whole of primary, so I do think nursery helped their immunity!
