Nursery Change

Hello fellow Mums - I have 2 children (2 year old and 3.5 year old). They were in a nursery they didnt particulary like for a few months as the nursery we wanted was delayed in opening. They are at the new nursery now since february and very happy there. The only negative is the lack of ourdoor space. Its quite limited and tiny which bothers me. We have been on a waitlist for 2 years for a nursery near us that is rated outstanding and has huge ourdoor space and is beautiful. Today I have been offered 2 spaces for my children to start in August. The timing feels so tricky as they are now settled in the "new nursery" and to move them again would be hard on them but it would be to a nursery that have much more outdoor space and amazing feedback from parents. I'm really torn as to what to do. Would be interested in what peopel think and experience of how moving their own children went.

I should add they only go three days a week so lots of fresh air and trips outdoors on non nursery days.

If they've only just moved I would be reluctant to move them again even more so if they only go three days a week. That's a lot of change for such small children especially your oldest who will be presumably moving again next year for school.

Depends on your kids, my DD2 adores the outdoors and would happily be out there all weathers so for us, a nursery with a free flowing outdoor area was crucial and I would move her to ensure she got this, she is also very adaptable and aslong as she has things to keep her occupied, shed be absolutely fine. DD5 was at a different nursery, which we loved, but we knew it wasn’t the right place for DD2 who is very much my wild child and needs big open spaces.

Did your children struggle to settle at the nursery? If they only started in February it’s really only a short time, so may find settling someone else easier. Are you confident that their current nursery is enriching them?

DS will have been to 3 nurseries between aged 2 and school starting. Nursery 1 closed down so he moved to Nursery 2 and in September he’ll move to Nursery 3 which is attached to his future school where the plan was always for him to go, we just didn’t plan on having to do nursery 2 just for a year in between and it is what it is. No issues settling so far so I feel ok about it. And that’ll hopefully be him done until age 13. So I wouldn’t be worried about a move if you feel the setting is better. I don’t that more outside space would be enough to convince me that another setting is better, but you know your kids and what suits them best.

Keep them in - do loads of outside activity on the other two days.

I'd change them. Kids that age are usually quite adaptable. If you think it'll suit them better and they'll be happier definitely do it
