Can residential flats be built on top of a Nursery?

Does anyone use a nursery that has residential flats on top of it? Is it possible to have residential accommodation above a nursery?

As I've posted before on here, ds3's lovely nursery is going to be bulldozed to make way for new student accommodation, which, to be fair, is desperately needed at my University. As is childcare, and as our campaign to save the nursery is starting to gather momentum, I wondered if it was possible to combine the two demands and request that a new nursery be included in the proposed new build.

Anyone got any advice?

Ring the local planning office?

Don't see any particular reason why not. All the buildings will have to comply with building regulations and fire regulations.

It is common to have flats above commercial properties.

There was a flat above my sons old nursery. They had a window overlooking the garden, but the people were at work in the day time, so were never bothered with the noise, and they never bothered the children/staff.

Ooh, are you able to give me an idea of where that was, QuintessentialShadows? I'm looking to provide successful examples of combining the two.
Will try the planning people tomorrow, themoon, but for some reason they are not there at this time of night (must be workshy fops), and I'm trying to pull something together ready for an informal meeting tomorrow.

Putney Day Nursery (Asquith Court) on Norroy Road, Putney SW15 in London.

Jigsaw Nursery is on the ground floor of an apartment block here

Jigsaw also has a nursery in Hammersmith, at the top of a shopping centre and Hammersmith Bus station, if you peek through the fence of the nursery's garden, you can see the bus station outside. I have not found their website, but this is the address

I am sure there are plenty of other examples of nurseries in, above or under flats or other commercial ventures.
I hope this helps.

the creche at our local hospital was underneath the staff accomodation. It was great for them, drop children down the stairs then over the road to work.

Lovely, thank you very, very much. Will also ring our planning office later.
