Is this unreasonable on DS's first day at Kindergarten?

I think it's unreasonable that on DS's first day today at a new Kindergarten in Germany, I was told that it was a problem that he wanted to be with the teacher all the time.

FFS, in the last 9 months we've relocated here, he's been put in a Kindergarten where he can't yet communicate (but is learning so damn fast!), had to leave said KG last week for this one (long story), had a sibling born 6 weeks ago, had chicken pox, toilet training AND I disappeared for a week in hospital right in the middle of all this.

It was his first day. Were they expecting him to skip off and chat to all the new children, when he doesn't know them, and can't speak in German sentences yet?

I'm really narked as I think he's been such a champ since we moved here, and doesn't need the hassle. Nor do I. Not when I'm SO sleep deprived it hurts.

OK, rant over. Someone cheer me up!

Can't believe you've all been treated so badly by kg!

Oh man... sounds awful . Just what you need! Poor DS. Rant and rave to hubby - that's what they're there for! Hopefully all will settle down in time. Don't let DS pick up on your stress if poss.

I'm just about to put my 10-mo DS into a nursery for the 1st time... v nervous reading all these things!!!

if it's any consolation, DS just started in a kindergarten here in the Netherlands and they also complained in a surprised way that he seemed to want attention (on his first day).

He also has the language issue, doesn't understand Dutch. I've also lived in Germany and basically the conclusion I've come to is that the Dutch and Germans have quite a similar attitude of 'like it or lump it' and 'stiff upper lip' in childcare for small children. They already have me down as the hysterical foreign mother, it's unavoidable I guess.

Anyway be strong and don't let it put you off, he will settle in, but definitely be firm with them... good luck!
